MaxSpect and their US Distributor Coral Vue have asked AquaNerd to assist them in getting the word out regarding a possible attempt to introduce an unauthorized “knockoff” of their MaxSpect Gyre Series pumps into the North American aquarium products market. The concern is due to a European release of a new cross flow pump by Jebao identified as the Jecod CP-25 and CP-45 pumps. MaxSpect has filed a patent application for the Gyre design and is exercising its legal rights to notice any potential entities that the sale and distribution of this new pump in the US market may potentially violate its impending patent rights and make the offender subject to penalties for theft of their intellectual property and legal damages which would include injunctive and by AquaNerd | Jun 6, 2014 | Science
Interzoo seemed to be a launching pad for many new and somewhat unusual water pumps this year, with Sicce also getting in on the action. They didn’t do anything unusual in terms of some radical design, but instead have incorporated some of the best technology a pump could ever use…wireless capabilities. The brand new Sicce Xstream-e series pumps have the same look and feel as other prop-based pumps, most notably the Sicce Stream Nano models, but they now incorporate a wireless remote control that allows users to crank up the flow or dial it back without ever having to walk over to the aquarium. The controller does more than just turn the flow up or down, however, as it is also multifunctional. The controller can set the pump to a short 10 second pulse, a longer 30 second pulse, and even longer minute long pulse. Additionally, the pump can be set in a random flow cycle or set to bypass mode for other controller input. As for the flow rates themselves, the Xstream-e will only be available in one model, but it will have an adjustable rate ranging from 3,000 to 8,000 l/h. Vertex Aquaristik wasn’t short on new products for MACNA by any means. In addition to new sumps and skimmers, a brand new water pump was announced. Called the V6 Flow Pump, this new water pump is powered by the always reliable Askoll motor and cranks out 1584 gph at a power consumption of approximately 65watts. Besides reliable water flow, the V6 also promises to be virtually inaudible in the typical aquarium environment. This is due to the fact that rubber feet dampen any vibrational noise that could be transferred from the pump’s base to the hard surfaces of the sump. A custom volute sits at the business end of the V6, and it’s decked out in the typical Vertex colors, red and white. Besides that, there aren’t many more details to discuss. Here’s some great news for EcoTech Marine fanboys, which includes us too by the way. The Pennsylvania based water pump, and more recently LED lighting, company is celebrating their 10 year anniversary, and they’re doing it in style. They recently announced a Photo Contest over on their Facebook Page in which hobbyists can win all sorts of EcoTech Marine gear. The contest is held monthly, with different themes for each one. For example, July’s theme is “Impressive Diversity” and the first place winner will get a package that includes a VorTech MP10wES. The contest is open to just about everyone, and it’s driven by votes from Facebook fans. There are already a bunch of impressive pictures of diverse reef life in this month’s contest, so head on over there and vote. If you didn’t enter this month, don’t fret, as there are many more to come. We’d also like to congratulate EcoTech Marine for their accomplishments, as it’s not easy to stick around for a decade in this business and do this well.
