SPS Coral Food is a micronized feed designed specifically for small polyped stony corals (SPS) by Vitalis.
SPS Coral Food is composed of fish and fish derivatives, vegetal derivatives, shellfish, crustaceans, oils, fats, vitamins, and minerals.
The food is between 100 and 400 microns wide, perfect for small polyped stony corals, be they Acropora, Montipora, Stylophora, Seriatopora, Pocillopora, or others, as well as large polyped stony corals (LPS).
The feed contains 53.7% protein, 12.2% inorganic matter, and 10.5% fats.
The importance of corals alimentation
If you have been our reader for a while, you know how often we talk about direct-feeding corals. We believe that it is very important, and we are always on the lookout for better feeds. We believe that Vitalis’s SPS Coral Food Vitalis is the best new food in this sense. Half of it is composed by proteins, with the addition of minerals and vitamins, making it perfect for our beloved corals.
Visually it seems powdery, thin, and dusty, but by enlarging the view we see a structure similar to small flakes.
The package includes a measuring cup, because it’s recommended to not touch the food with your bare hands.
How to administer SPS Coral Food
Vitalis suggests a spoonful for every 50 liters of water in aquarium, and to adjust based your own population. In my tank of 400 liters I use 8 spoonfuls each day.
If you want to obtain the maximum result I suggest you to mix SPS Coral Food in a measuring cup with a bit of water from the aquarium, lower the flow of the pumps and, if it’s possible, administer the food in front of each coral. It would be also great to stop the return pump, so that the product doesn’t just end up in the sump and is skimmed.
The jar is about 40 grams and costs 12 euro. ($13.40 USD)
We really liked it and the corals, both SPS and LPS, seemed to enjoyed it very much… Do you have any experience with this? [Translated by Agnese Poggi]
