i bet that the problem was your alk being to low. get a mag test kit asap. i don't know how you can be keeping sps without one. When keeping sps i think you have to have the most test kits like
Alk
ph (unless you have a probe)
Calcium
Phos
Mag
Nitrate
potassium

There a must for me.

Well everything has been fine for the last couple of weeks. My tank seemed to be in more demand of alk and calcium with the new additions and a quick growth on the monti caps over a short period of time. In conjuntion with not running any GFO or Carbon for over a month. Only thing i was loosing was a green BN which was STN so i fragged it all up and all frags have been looking great since. My Alk has been steady in the 11's for the last month now. which i am happy with. Temp has had no swings since the AC has been on for the last 2-3 weeks and i have fans running during the day so down to 1 degree change throught out the day

Finally got a mag test kit, some 4.4lbs of seachem advanced mag media, and changed to reds sea pro salt. My mag levels are at 1140 which i know is low, Im adding 20mg of mag to the system a dayto bring it up. My target is going to be between 1300-1400 mg. Should i take it slower? Faster? Also picked up a TDS tester for my RO and found i need to change my filters. I had 95ppm going in and 10ppm coming out.
My calcium has been steady around 400 and my alk has been steady around 8.4. My question is when i bring the mag higher will i need to adjust my daily alk and ca dosing since the mag balance or stablilzes the alk and ca.
I also picked up a CA reactor but probibly wont mess with that till i get my new tank up and running next week.

In my experience, if your tank is at 80 all the time, then 80 is okay. if it's at 78 all the time, then 78 is okay - there is a range of okay, and most animals will adapt to what's going on - the temp of the tank will affect all the chemistry soooo....

if you check your parameters at 80 and then you have a temp swing, your params (some of them, at any rate) will change, and the results can be pretty bad - just remember that as the temp changes, the pH changes - total dissolved oxygen changes, lots of things change... keeping the temp stable is a lot more important than being tied to one specific number, in my experience.

Similarly, changing the temp slowly while watching the other parameters to make sure they are not swinging is key.

Glad to hear things have gotten better!

Yes everything is doing great the new frags i got a month ago are encrusting nicely. And most of my frags are showing good growth, my slimmer last month had grown white tips with no polyps and now the polyps have grow in.
