I looked for a long time and gave up. The LFS's I go to are Manhattan Aquariums, Greenwich Aquaria, House of Fins, and Aquatic Obsessions, although none of them are really local.

691 locust st. mount vernon ny. the absolute best store ive been to and just opened up like last month. now ive never been to manhattan aquarium or any big place before but for a local fish shop this is my favorite. and they have the cheapest prices ever. there actually half the price of petland discounts, im serious a clownfish in petland is 20 for a little baby and in maximum reef aquatics there 10, and the biggest difference i saw was a nice healthy and big Achilles tang for 160 and in petland it was 225. i got a brown powder tang very healthy and a nice size for 45 and in petland i was just about to buy one for 70 before this place opened so i highly recommend you check it out.

You guys probably have heard of Maximuim reefs on central ave in Yonkers around the library it's a good store and stuff is cheap most of the things I have are from there I got tired of going downtown but u guys should check it out its just a 15 min ride

If you want a quality store (but quality does not come cheap) check out House of Fins in Greenwich, CT. I only buy my livestock from them and to be honest you pay alittle more but each of their employees has either numerous years in the Marine Aquarium Hobby or they have Marine Biology Degrees. They are also the only Local Fish Store that will guaruntee their livestock for 2 weeks. I will never buy from another location in New York.

I call BS on this one, the 2 times I have been there several fish had ICH, and the employees I talked to had ZERO to NO knowledge about the fish. When I asked how much the hippo tangs where I was told they are yellow tailed damsels. I said great how much are those? And they said we are out of them, when I pointed at the fish the guy says I have no clue what those are, the 2nd employee he called over said those aren't hippos or damsles. I said what are they then? The response I got made me walk out the door not knowing if I should laugh or cry. They were not a type of dwarf angels though.

Are there LFS in the neighborhood, where hobbyist can just walk in to buy or order specific fish or coral or dry goods, without appointment.

Aquarium Tropical Fish in the bronx on Butler Pl. near westchester ave. on the 6 train. Its literally right next to a grave yard haha

It's the Old Max Reef and it's been open since the late Summer time.

AX Signature Corals is right down the street from the Casino in Yonkers and def worth the trip for rare and exotic corals. They're a vendor on here (MR) also.
