Removing center cabinet

I have a 90 gallon oceanic. Do u guys think its a good idea to remove the center wood from the cabinet?

I don't think the cabinet was designed to function without it. A center wood beam is used as an additional support removing it without reinforcing the stand is not a good idea IMO.

I would agree with everyone above!! Do not take it out, well unless you wanna just test to see if it will hold. But before you do it, let everyone here know so we can bet on how long until the tank comes falling down.

My removal of the center brace

I had my tank fully done when I switched from wet/dry to a 3 stage sump. I found out tho, that the 30 gallon sump I bought just wouldn't fit under my 72g bow front unless I took out the center post. There was no way in hell I was going to drain the tank and remove all the livestock... So I compromised.

I went to Home Depot and bought a floor jack. One of those ones that is meant to be cranked up to hold up to like 13,000 lbs of floor while you work under it. Well, I raised the jack to the bottom of the cabinet and raised the tank maybe... 1/8th of an inch. Then I sawed off and removed the center post, removing the entire thing from top to bottom. Then while the tank was jacked up I measured the length of wood I just removed and cut one exactly the same length.


Finally, for about 9 seconds I lowered the jack and QUICKLY installed the sump and then replaced the jack. I inserted the newly cut piece of wood where I cutout the old one and slowly lowered the jack. Then bolted everything down and admired my ballsy solution to an annoying problem.


Then I returned the jack to Home Depot... Because what the hell am I going to use a floor jack for besides this???
