Need advice on drilling 180g, need to drill the side panel

Hay Guys,

I was thinking of drilling a 180g on the side panel and install an overflow. Is this doable? Anything i need to watch out for? I have drilled a 20gallon tank before without problem. I would imagine a 180g is harder, thicker glass, and moving it around. Would it be an issue if i have the tank sit on the side panel for a day so i can drill and install an overflow kit? Advice? I want to do a 3 sided view.

Planning to just get an overflow from ebay after i drilled it and install it. Would i be just using silicone i guess.

Should be no problem.

Go slow, use a lot of water to cool it and don't put much pressure if any just use the weight of the drill..basically everything you know already from doing your 20g it will just take longer

I don't think you can get a perfect hole with a regular drill and bit.

What kind of bit did you use? Hole saw or a glass drill bit. I hope the chips are not on the side the gasket is going to press up againat

Diamond hole saw drill bit, the chip are very very minimum and it's not on the side of the gasket so i should be fine. :splitspin

That's what I thought, sounds like duke have seen some. Maybe laser cutting will get u perfect hole.

Ok as long as it's not on gasket side. And I've done a lot of holes and never had any chips on either side. I think my last 2 had some because after 5 years and hundreds of tanks drilled my bit finally dulled on me.

believe or NOT , yes is possible, u need to meat my friend locksmith , he use another piece of glass on the end ,clamp , lol
but not sure if need "perfect hole" lol.

I lay the tank on a piece of plywood to lay just on the glass then use my hand as a guide till I get a nice score and slow up right before I break through. Perfect hole
