Just a little update...

Here is a couple of pics of the full diy build......finally...

Just got to put in my live rock that is finishing curing, should be ready nexy wednesday, so i can finish off my aqua-scaping like how i want it...

on the sump, i just need to top up with sand, stupid boy me did not buy enough....thick or what...when the extra sand has been put in, i can then chuck in some rock rubble and add some macro algae

Any feedback or constructive critisim is always welcome...

Heater will be moved to the sump after a few days when the temperature level has been nornalised..

Niko

P.S...The water level has been taken up to the top now aswell....

P.P.S...Remember, i am IT Manager, not a wood craftsman.....he he he he

Looks good Niko. Could you post a pic of the canopy with the front removed? I'm building a canopy as we speak and like your idea of a removable face.

No problem matey...here you go..

Just to explain the inside a little...I have 4 80mm ( 8cm ) computer case fans all sucking in and the air escapes out through the holes in the back..

The shelf the halides sit on is hinged at the back so it can be lifted up at the front to give more access room in needed..Painted the area which the actual light shines in brilliant white gloss to give maximum light return into in the tank...The inside of the front lift off cover also is glossed in white so its all just like a white box inside....

Hope this helps a little buddy

Thanks for the post. I have a frame built but can't decide how to construct the front for access. My main problem is I'm using 1X12 inch pine and all boards I buy are or become warped, so without screwing in the face nothing will lie straight. FYI it will be ~24 inches tall (2 boards) 6 feet long and everything I think of for providing easy access from the front will look ghetto. I'm thinking heavily about your design incorperating triangular slides (if I understand your principals correctly) to lock the front in place, but the warp is strong with these boards. I'm starting to see the wisdom of using particle board.

Hey there gud buddy...got to hear some feedback from you...thought you had dropped off the end of the world or something....

No mate, the actinics dont block any light from them at all..

When i have saved up some cash, i am gonna replace to two long actinic tubes with a couple of power compacts which i can mount better inside the hood...

Thanks for your feedback, from a fellow DIY science project man...

na, not yet. i'm considering a major change fairly soon. new tank, new location...reef ready, so the diy stuff went on hold for a bit. i might end up doing a reef ready tank upstairs and a massive basement sump/fuge/frag tank. not sure yet...i'll keep you posted!

MASSIVE basement sump/fuge/frag tank?! I thought we were going with a smaller sump/fuge under the tank in the LR? <sigh> Must be that "I always want it bigger" guy thing!

I build alot of cabinets etc... I like them ornate and simple depending on the house. I Really like your rounded lower cabinet doors. Nice touch!
