Glad to hear it. I just recently (last night) modded my Euroreef Rs80 with sedra3500 and the zip ties seem to affect the functionality of the impellar in general. I will have to try the superglue in lorder to keep zip ties off the pump casing on the back of the impellar plate.
So, how is it working out for you, Duane? :)

I did these mods (meshwheel and venturi mod) to the pump on an Octopus NW200 and it doubled the air intake. I was not impressed with this skimmer in its stock form, but with the mods it's been great (drastic increase in skimmate production).

I used monofilament (fishing line) to attach the mesh instead of the zip ties. Works great. One of these days when I get 5 minutes of free time ( ) I'll take some pics and start a thread...

Chris, what kind of mesh did you use? And how many layers? :)

So far it's working great (I think it's been about 2 months).

There were two rows of spokes on the stock impeller. I took one off. I snipped a bunch of spokes off the remaining row - I think I left six. I tied the mesh to those.

I'll try to get some pics up soon...

For those of you that have done this mod, would you do it all over again? I'm debating whether or not if this mod is worth it for me.

No major problems so far. Actually, I recently mesh modded an old Quiet One 3000 I had lying around and I was so impressed with how it performed I swapped out pumps and I'm running it on the Octopus skimmer now. I drilled out the original fittings on the Octo skimmer body and mounted the QO with a 1" uniseal. It pulls more air than I was getting out of the modded Octopus pump at 1/3 of the power draw!
