My Maxi Jet and Mod is pulling air from the top of the tank and creating a vortex, so it's spitting out microbubbles all over the display tank.

I've heard of some people with the same issue, but can't seem to find a DIY via search to fix it.

Any suggestions?

Havent tried this so I dunno how well it will work, but just from a physics point of view, if you aim a powerhead or your sump return at the vortex area but so it sends water in the opposite direction, it might disrupt it enough to stop it. i.e. if the vortex is spinning clockwise, send the water against the motion, trying to force it to spin counter clockwise. Theoretically they should cancel each other out... to an extent... Again, in theory.

LOL. Yeah - I'm thinking along those lines as well.

Reefman - I switched from a MJ1200 to MJ600, and it seems to be better, but still sucks up some air.

I like the MJ 1200 with the mod because the flow makes all to way to the other side of my 36" tank. The MJ600 doesn't :-(

you could try suctioncupping a piece of acrylic or something above it at the waterline it so it doesnt have direct access to the air. Now I'm just trying to get creative.

you are prob going to have to lower it somehow...The same thing happens with the high dollar powerheads if they are too close to the top.
