It would have been a lot less work to use high power leds my set up over a 6 foot by 18 inch area uses 108 leds with par readings higher than 400 mh on magnetic ballasts the only con is that the bulbs I get are $7.50 each and for every 6 bulbs you need a driver for $20 but I can control the light output and color.
good luck with your light

Emmanuel, can you elaborate more on your set ? Maybe a link to a thread ?

Srvokshi, do you have access to a par meter ? Also is your set up dimmable ? or Just on/off. Looks like you put alot of work into. How are the corals responding ?

Looks good, I see you cleaned it up a bit :tongue1:. I hope you are happy with it. As i have a bare wall now lol.

- I was thinking to do a small led setup on that nano I have. Got to do more research. There is a thread on RC but the cost was in excess of 400 for the setup. Granted it was alot of lights but idk.

What do you think would be a good amount of LEDs for a 23x23x18 dimentions ?

depends on the leds you are using..in my light im using the 10mm super white and sper blue leds and the cree's just to show what i can do and will probably sell that one and start on my next light..lol oh and smaller 5mm leds for moonlight ,but it all depends with the cree style lights you would need less but they give off more heat and use more power with the others you need more bulbs but pretty much no heat and less power to run them..so its your choice and if you need i can get you whatever bulbs either way you want just let me know.

I second emmanuel as power led would have helped to lower your work. My cree equivalent is around $6 each and my 12,000K 150 lumens are only $8 each which factors to not much more than your cost I guess. Heat trapped in 10mm are much higher than power leds and thus power leds as power leds are usually shipped with heat sinkk at the back. There were too many people who bought the light panels on ebay that adv for $150 and have thermal runaway problem in less than a month.

I also feel that you should add more punch to the light, it does not look too have very high intensity in your pics.
