thanks Pierce, I had no idea. I was going from memory of a pic I saw.

so the recirculating water goes above the plate and the water coming into the skimmer goes under the plate, and the holes are much smaller.

I understand now, the plate is to evenly distribute the water coming in, I thought it was to spread out the recirculating pumps bubble flow.

so maybe a flat fixture on the bottom of the body for the input that will spread the water out and the plate to try to make it as even as possible.

Cali's point is very logical. What purpose would 3/4" holes serve? They are much too large to be a bubble diffuser. Now that's one of the reasons I recommended making it removeable. The holes getting smaller would act more like a bubble diffuser. The 2/3 size suggested by Cali doesn't restrict the flow to the bottom of the reaction chamber.

Some good ideas are coming out of here.

I thought I had seen a pic of a BK with big holes for the diffuser plate.

I started the drawing with 1/4" holes but changed them. I'll go back to the drawing board for the plate design.

to make it removable I can machine some stands to glue to the bottom of the body, the tops can be notched to accept the plate which can drop in the holes then rotate to lock in place. I think four stands could do the trick.

the plate would then float in the bottom of the skimmer, but come out if needed. that's not too hard to do.

the hard part will be drilling all those little holes, ugh. at least I can tape them together and make both at once.

Jhale, the diffuser plate on the BK is about 2/3 the diameter of the body chamber and the holes are less than 1/4" spaced about 1/8" apart

Correction, my skimmer is 12" in diameter(okay, approximately since it is in metric) and the inner diffuser chamber is about 10" in diameter. Will take some pictures next weekend if I get a chance to take it down for a good cleaning.

John, i would laser cut the diffuser plate, it may take four hours to cut but you can just set it and forget it and you know it will come out perfect. You could always go back and counter sink them all afterwards and i still think it would be easier and more acurate.
