Skimmer issue

I have the reef octopus nwb-110 skimmer.

When the power goes out, or I turn off the switch for when I do water changes, the skimmer doesn't work properly upon resuming power.

I have to blow into the air hose silencer and then it works fine... anyone come across this issue?

I got it in December from another reefer. I haven't cleaned the pump yet but I'm going to also clean the body.

I don't have a reef octopus, but salt creep in the the air line can cause problems in ventrui type skimmers. Pull the venturi piece off of the pump and check the little hole where the air comes in.

What pump/impeller do you have? I had a mesh wheel pump that never started without a little help.

It's the Aquatrance 1000 pump and pinwheel impeller

Just have to clean it probably. Still pulls great skim mate

same issue here with my reef octopus
you need to disassemble and clean the pump

are you saying the pump doesn't restart on its own? Or the pump works but it's not producing enough bubbles?

The pump gets power but the skimmer just runs water. I have to blow into the air silencer for the bubbles to kick in basically. It's so weird and only happens once in a while if I turn the system off then back on.
