I know that Ecotech has been known to be very secretive with their new products and I can say I'm very happy with all my products and the service behind them. I'm sure that they have some new products in the works, besides just a G4 Radion. I'm hoping for an aquarium controller that utilizes the Reeflink as the main bridge between all he equipment and sensors. It's just wishful thinking at this point, but I'm sure they've got something new in the works and we won't know about it until its near release, I just wonder what everyone's thoughts are on possible new products.

Someone mentioned on our local forum that their patent for the mp's expire this year and that they should be getting into a new series of vortechs

I think the GYRE really had an impact on our hobby. I saw the video same tank, 1 Gyre Vs 2 MP40s and the Gyre noticeably hit all the dead spots.

Hopefully the impact will be on price, as even though the prices of Vortechs were recently cut they're still expensive.

Gyre maybe more powerful, and you can setup a number of different flow patterns with them, they still need to add some of the bells and whistles that people are looking for. They're still bigger than the Vortech, which in a big tanks doesn't matter that much but it does have an impact on smaller tanks, where space is a premium. It will be interesting to see the size on the smaller model that is coming out soon. The wireless thing is also a big thing, as that's one less wire coming from out to the tank to have to deal with, so I think Vortech will always win that battle when choosing between the two.

Ecotech has to realize that their customers have already spent a fortune on their power heads, now must sell for over a 50% loss, and then spend likely double that amount on a new device. This new device better have some serious motivation behind it one way or another, because I'm not that unhappy with the MP40's I am running right now :)

Happy with my Vortechs. Disgusted with the fact they dropped the mp40 price by 35%.
While it's great for people purchasing now, This shows how much they bent their customers over in the past few years.
You know even at $299, they are still making something on it.

Trust me, even at $299 they're still making a lot more than "something" on them. The price you're paying for is not always in the materials and manufacturing costs, but in the hours of research & development. They product was years in the making and costs that weren't repaid until the final product was sent to market. So for them to recoup that money for the first few years, then lower the price is a legitimate thing to do. Now don't get me wrong, shelling out $300-$400 for a pump is a lot and sure I don't like to be ripped off, but did the product perform for you well enough and do its job in a manner that justified the price you paid for it? If so, then the price you pay is the value you place on it, as economics goes. I personally don't like the look of other pumps and I certainly am not a fan of the Gyre at all. So, I pay for Ecotech, at their price. Also, if you wanted to wait till now to buy a MP40 and pay $299, then you wouldn't have had one for the last few years. You paid an extra $100 and have got the pleasure of having their product for the last few years. It's all about what you can justify.
