Okay so my arm is twisted and i'm going LED.... I've been looking at different brands and this one I like the most because is modular, you can always add more, we like to upgrade and when we do we probably keep about %30 of our equipment because the rest is useless on our bigger setups.

I'd like your opinion, what you think is a pro and what you think is a con with this specific brad.

If you think there is a better setup please do tell me.

Thank you :splitspin

I just ordered a few of these, and besides the light intensity what really sold me was the upgradability. we find ourselves selling so many things that we just can't use on our upgrades that it just made good sense to purchase something that can be upgraded easily.

BTW I hope you know that the wait for these can be 4-6 weeks when not in stock.

In addition, the only one that doesnt have "issue" with Orbitects plethera of patents. I too just bought these units. With that said lets eliminate the DIY led units becouse I am not in the mood for a debate. The reason why I chose the A/I is for the following

1) Fit and finish
2) Cree led's
3) Interchangeable lenses
4) Pucks are easy to swap out
5) Upgradeability(not just an advertiesement) firmware, puck upgrade, lense upgrade....
6) Customer Service. These guys always pick up the phone and God knows they are sick of all my questions at this point....:splitspin In addition, from reading most of the threads regarding these units the majority has nothing but positive feedback
7) Ease of operation and Controller use.
8) The most "controllable" unit on the market as of right now in the USA
9) A/I has been around for a while and is not going anywhere.
10) And last but not least no worries about Orbitect "issues"

Now with that being said I will also say that if the Vertex unit was available in the USA It would have been a very tough decision. But its not and they are having Orbitect "issues" as well. So there you have it.

I have 2 white units and I love them. With that said, I have had the motherboard on one of units break, so the light will not lower its intensity or turn off (essentially the controller is usesless), and I can't get AI to replace it, or even answer the phone now. They do not return emails or phone calls, and I wold like to buy the motherboard, but I just can't get through to anyone.

Although it is the best LED light I have seen, I am starting to wonder what the hell is going on with them, and if they are actually avoiding me, or if it is just bad luck at this point.

Why spend all that money on a AI when you can just buy a DIY kit . It way cheaper and you can choose the size heat sink that perfect for you . The only problem with the AI is you need more modulars because of the little led it has Like you need 4 modulars for a 48inch long tank . Alot of you say no but when you call AI thay say you need 4 modulars for a 48inch that to = a 240 to 400 MH if you us only to thay say it = to a 175 Mh.

I am under the impression that the amount of modular units on your tank depends how much coverage you want. On another site, which speaks on the AI units some people have 2 units on a 48" tank. while some have the recommended 4 units.

I decided to start with 2 and decide if it provides the coverage I need.

Hey man, i have the ai super blue and its perfect , along with the updates the controller is super friendly, the lightning simulations are fun to watch and they make for nice clean installs and look very sharp.

so if you dont need a temp spike or a nightmare trying to do it yourself , just go with the ai believe me its really worth the wait!

p.s. i have a picture of mine over my aga 54 in my images if you wanna check it out.

I have never seen a DIY LED look close to as good as the AI led looks. That counts for something as looks is important when it sits in your living room and is clearly visible. I do not want a bunch of cords sticking out or hanging around.

That's another plus the clean look.

Yes you can if you now what your doing and take you time

Show me 3 (different units) pictures of DIY LED's that look good.

I Think we have different needs. I do not want any cords anywhere, but since that is not possible, I will have 2 from my AI LED and 1 from my Vortech. But that is it. You will not see any other cords from my tank. Please keep in mind I am crazy, and the look of something is very important to me, perhaps you do not feel this way, which is why I went with the AI LED.

Well said Thane, I have nothing to add except the fact that I'm extremely pleased with my AI's and IMO well worth every penny.

Becouse some of us are not DIY guys....:splitspin I can however state that you definitely do not need 1 per foot. Every application is very different depending on your needs. If you have some height you can play with these and cover quite a bit of territory and still get plenty off power to spare. I have 4 units covering a 5' x 30" x 30" area. In addition the controller is extremely easy to use with every adjustment you could possibly want. At the end of the day yes you can DIY but if you are not able or dont want to make a mistake and be part of the learning curve this is why we buy these units.

The AI leds is the way to go. The unit is easy to use and upgrade. Everywhere I have read the AI unit beats other units has down. Just the wait time is so long to get one since the units sell so fast.

I order them through Gotham Aquatics, hopefully will be getting them soon, will let you guys know and show pictures... By the way I only got two modules because each can cover 36"x36" very well.
