Hello everyone! I finally got some sort of breeding fish.I have been wanting to test my skills as far as breeding. None of my clownfish are laying eggs yet but a pair of bangaiis gave me their first batch! I dont know how old they are but judging from pictures that i saw on the internet and how they are developed they are about 21 days old.

It all started a few weeks ago... we noticed the male hiding in the corner and not coming out for feedings... I really didnt think much of it. At about 2 and a half weeks later I was watching him and saw how his jaw was sticking out. A few days later while watching him I saw him yawn and he spit an egg out. I was freaking out and I immediately grabbed some airline tubing and collected the egg. I looked at the egg for any signs of life and could see the blood going through its blood vessel right behind the eyes. I researched most of the day and ended up making an egg tumbler using pieces i had laying around in the shop.

A few days later the eggs hatched and they have been doing well the last few days. I decided that since the two rejected eggs have gotten its stripes the others in the males mouth should be about the same as far as development so i forced the male to spit the eggs out. There were 9 in its mouth in total, 1 dead but formed fry, 7 hatched fry and 1 egg that was still alive which i put into the tumbler. I think it was a good idea since i found a dead fry... who knows what it could've done to the rest as it decomposed in papas mouth.

I'm hoping to increase the survival rate by taking the eggs from the male early and incubate them myself. I'm so excited with these fry but now the hardest part will be coming up. They only have a few days to consume the yolk sac but I have BBS ready to go and will keep a log on how the fry develop as well as the next batch of eggs. I will also try to take as many pictures as possible. Stay tuned! :)

In freshwater hobby we would shake out the fry out of the mouth of the cichlids. The sooner you shake them out after hatching the more you'll have. As the fry mature there is less and less space in the mouth and if the parent is afraid to release them they'll just swallow one by one as time passes.

In my case shaking it out the day they hatched would yield about 40-60 fry. week later and you'd be in 15-20 range. few days later and you'd maybe get 7. see how quickly that number went down?

feeding bbs with result in a large die off try adding some frozen cyclopeeze with the bbs for a more balanced diet.

That is my assumption, based on my failed breeding. I couldn't get them on cyclopeeze and they died for no reason around 2-3 months.
But the reason is likely not enough HUFA (high unsaturated fatty acids) which is good for a baby fish development, which BBS lacks.

they are going for the bbs which i will be adding aminos to it in a few days... for some reason i checked the tumbler and found the hatched fry and egg missing??? There are no holes in my tumbler.. i wonder if hermits attacked them through the mesh... :(

All of the other fry today are doing well and are starting to school with each other. Will post more pics as soon as i can!
