I Just got a diamond goby I thought it would get right to work on my sand.

I started to aculmate it when it jumped into the tank, about 15min later it jumped into my overflow 15 more min. it took me to get him out. than it hung out near the top, thought it was going to jump again than i didn't see it looked around the tank no luck guess it didn't jump than I found a whole in the sand it was there. its digging up around my rock, is this normal when should it start swimming around the bottom and being a excellent sand sifter

its been 2 days is it normal for them to hide at first what is the normal behavor for this fish everything I read they didnt say they will hide.

thanks:tongueani

Sand sifting gobies will usually make a few burrows under the rocks, mine has 3. They constantly move the sand around those burrows like jhale said. They also hide pretty often and if anything spooks them they dart into their burrow rather quickly. Give him a few days to get used to his new tank and he will start to sift through the sand. Chances are he's doing it already during the day when youre not around. I know mine would hide anytime I came near the tank for the first week or so. They are also good jumpers, as you found out, so I would make sure you have a tight fitting lid on your tank.
