A little rumor mill control--- The Vortech at NERAC failed because the driver box got wet, not the exterior portion of the pump!!!! In any real world application other than the chaos of a conference, the driver would be located nowhere near water. It was the equivilant of dropping your Aqua controller into the tank... hard to blame the design. Randy

If it got wet, you'd think all the heat it puts off would quickly evaporate the water :D

Russ, the guy from that link is doing alot of interesting stuff. If you have free time, you should visit their store in Groton, CT called Fin & Feather.

There is some interesting reading here regarding the LEDs. Looks like you can plug them in to a medium based bulb to power them.

joe

There are many ways you can power up a led "colony". The one in pic actually can be purchased with DC adapter which makes it much safer than say a aquarium heater.

The light bulbs made out of led which use a screw in type socket. There are also some versions with the 2 pin for replacing a spot light.

One last thing, I am already in the making of a DIY LED panel for the new tank but don't want to mention it until it's finished and make sure it does a better job than the MH before I got bashed by other non believers.:knockedou My gut feeling is that it will work wonders not necessarily better than MH but at least better than the PCs. My beta version already out performs std flourescent light in the freshwater planted tank. One other thing most ppl who talks about the led usage in reefing or never high constant color life span of LED. Unlike flourescent light, the color of the LED hardly changes provided that you give stable electircity. Therefore, the complaint about old bulbs causing algae is soon to be history.

Hey Magellan, I mean tony, you guys should make it a weekend trip and go to Mystic and the casino for a weekend. That would be cool. Maybe someone could get a group rate on rooms at Mohegan Sun, arrange for a private tour of the mystic aquarium, and eat some mystic pizza while you're at it! I know they serve free drinks at the tables if you're playing!

I am psyched about that presentation. Great job Randy. Are you guys going to give us a schedule of presentations? I'm one of the northwestern members and I want to make sure I'm there in time for the fireworks!

Russ
