Is this how you treat fellow reefrs

hey all

i have not been a member of this billboard for very long, but, since i have been a member here i have not been a happy "member". i have been lied to by three long standing members (over 1000+post) in regards to purchases. really, 3 members here, promised to sell me items, then at the last moment (ready to pick up item) they back out of the deal. and just 5 minutues ago, i posted before someone (a purchase again :smash: ), and i get a pm saying that the person that posted after me got the deal:question: .

i am being to think that this an initiation or something, so again i ask, is this how fellow reefers are treated here at manhattan reefs....:banghead:

By and large I have found that not to be the case. Did you PM the sellers? That might be a more convenient way of expressing your disastisfaction.

A lot of times it is a misunderstanding or lack of communication but not an initiation type of thing. I have been able to closed almost every transaction pretty well. Even so there have been a few that fell through (with me as the buyer).

Just my experience.

I would have to say that that is NOT the norm on this site, especially with our long standing members. Usually, crooked or ill intentioned people get sick of playing by the rules and leave the site before they have 1000+ posts.

I don't want to say that you are in the wrong, but is is possible that you were the one that didn't follow the norm or reefer etiquette? I'm just suggesting this because you are new (although you may very well be a long time reefer on another site).

Most of the members here take great pride in their reputation, we have an established rating system, there are no major ongoing problems with traders, so I find this a little shocking that it happened (let alone three times).

If you want, I would be interested in discussing this with you privately via PM.

I see that you have only posted 3 times on this board. Were other transactions via PM, if so the site rules state the order is established via posting in the thread not PM. Your other posts were a negotiation of price on a pump and a frag purchase as well as this thread. Is this a new account for you?

i was expecting replies like the above....of course it would be easy to point fingers at me, but, i will boldly say, it is no way my fault in any reagard...i

have taken all correct courses of action, for goodness sakes, the deals were closed already, and i was ready to pick-up the items from the sellers it was always an excuse (i decided to keep it, im giving it to a friend, i am going to DIY and upgrade it etc....)...

in reagards to pm's if it is not stated in the post thst pm's should be sent or are prefered, then why send them? and yes, i am a long time reefer, i am a member on numerous sites (with 1000+ post), and i belong to 2 clubs, so i am completely aware of the "norm or reefer etiquette", which is why i did not post any names, and i have sent them pm's in reference to their "reefer etiquette".

lastly, why not talk about in the open so that everyone can see the problem, and perhaps help....but i really i have been turned off from this site, and really no longer interested in this site because i can see where this going to go...

if this is the case, why allow new members to join the site, or why even entertain me by saying i can buy the item, and going as far as setting up pick-up dates...

Well, since I didn't even get a chance to respond before you decided to abandon the site, I guess I will list some suggestions for people who read this thread in the future:

This is not RC.
This is not Craigslist.
We are a community, but being a community does not protect you from shady individuals.
We have a decent rating system.
People don't always get along, let alone complete a transaction of any sort.
Be prepared for miscommunications, bad deals, personality conflicts. They are NOT the norm, so if you get screwed the first time, don't bash the process, try again.

This site wouldn't exist if it wasn't for a great group of people that make this hobby about a lot more than just trading tupperware.

If you can't talk about it, even in PM to a third party, then you probably shouldn't be trading with other people. There is a LOT of awesome livestock available at the LFS.

well with the 4 reefers that i have dealt with it seems as though this is the norm...and like i said in my earlier post "i can see were this going to go" and that place is you guys (members) pointing the finger at the new member...i tell yah this, i could careless if i am a member here or not, i have much to offer in the way of experience, knowledge, livestock and so fourth. however, if all new members are treated the way that i have been treated (here and now) then you guys should just close the post to the public...but again i forgot im the bad guy, but the others who dont follow the site rules are okay....
