So sorry for your loss, that is a tough pill to swallow for sure. About 3 months ago i added a 18-20 inch red carpet to my tank hoping it would thrive in my setup and hoping my clown fish would host it. It did well for the first two days and i started to notice its mouth turning inside out. I got up the next morning and it wasn't dead, but after looking at it REAL CLOSE, i could literally see it release some type of spew (toxin, gas, chemicals... don't know) all around the entire anemone and then into the water column. I paid big money for this carpet and was delaying as much as possible from pulling it from my tank. After an 1/2 hour of watching this anemone still giving off this gas exchange ( i could see it alter the water clarity) i was forced to pull it. I put this huge red carpet into a 5 gallon pale with tank water and within 15 minutes it was completely dead and destroyed. If i didn't remove it when i did, i think i would of returned home to a completely dead tank. I got lucky and a lesson learned the hard way.

Get your tank cleaned up and stable again. If stbarnabas has your back, then so do I. Give either of us a call when you're ready and we will let u know what we can do to help.

I can't imagine what u must feel like but I know I'd hope someone would step in to lend a hand if I were in your shoes.

Best of luck!!!

I hate reading stories like this. This is a trying hobby. So much time, money and heartache goes into maintaining these delicate systems that it seems that disaster is not all that uncommon. I know as my old tank leaked and I lost everything a few years back. I was disheartened and quit. I sold most of my equipment and was happy with not having a tank to worry about.

That lasted for about a year. Then I got the itch again and rebuilt with my current system.

So I understand exactly how you feel. Sometimes a break is good. the only advice I can offer is if you break down, do not sell anything. If you choose to start up again, I will offer you some free SPS frags also. Good luck!

That really sucks. Very sorry for your loss. You had some beautiful fish. I know it hurts now but don't give up. You will miss it too much and it will cost a lot of money to start from scratch in the future. Trust me I gave up about 3 1/2 years ago. I'm just getting back into it. It's such a beautiful hobby. Hang in there. Start by getting your levels squared away. Then go from there. Best of luck whatever you decide.

Thanks for all the support guys...I guess that's the beauty of MR

I'm not 100% sure what I will be doing in the next few days, I know for one, I want to keep whatever is alive in the tank happy and healthy. I am trying to get a 35-40 gallon water change going and replacing the carbon. After that I will see how everything reacts and take it from there.

I would love to restock but those fish, especially at that size, are not cheap :(
