So sorry for your loss, that is a tough pill to swallow for sure. About 3 months ago i added a 18-20 inch red carpet to my tank hoping it would thrive in my setup and hoping my clown fish would host it. It did well for the first two days and i started to notice its mouth turning inside out. I got up the next morning and it wasn't dead, but after looking at it REAL CLOSE, i could literally see it release some type of spew (toxin, gas, chemicals... don't know) all around the entire anemone and then into the water column. I paid big money for this carpet and was delaying as much as possible from pulling it from my tank. After an 1/2 hour of watching this anemone still giving off this gas exchange ( i could see it alter the water clarity) i was forced to pull it. I put this huge red carpet into a 5 gallon pale with tank water and within 15 minutes it was completely dead and destroyed. If i didn't remove it when i did, i think i would of returned home to a completely dead tank. I got lucky and a lesson learned the hard way.
