hey m/r

i went to oak beach with my friend George who lives couple of blocks from me. Since he mentioned to me about oak beach and i can catch some butterfly fishes, we drover down to oak beach yesterday and thought of trying to catch some fishes. it was fun and water was pretty wam. we stayed there for 2-3 hrs and we did not get any butterfly but we did get some decent size pipe fish and one burrfish. very nice size and one sea horse. i have acclimated them now they are in my added him to my sump. i am planning to go again saturday with his net if someone wants to go let me know we can give it try and see if we get lucky with catching some fishes. it will be lots of funn and great experience as well.

The best time to catch them is at 3:00 am, low tide plus they are asleep. But heck no, I'm not going at that time in the water.... Love to catch 1 but not at that time.

LMAO... 3am indeed! I have collected many times at OB but NEVER at 3am! LOL

As I told Ravi, it's still a bit early -- prime time will be in September and even early October. But even so, pulling the seine in and looking for that spark of color from a tropical that got swept up here on the Gulf Stream is always a thrill.

We didn't get any Butterflies, but they will be very abundant in a month. The Spotfin Butterfly being the most common. But, listen, y'all... these guys EAT coral! Hello?... As in NOT "reef safe!" You'll also hear that they don't live long in our aquariums, but I have a friend who has had these "OB collected" Butterflies for three years -- so, coral eating aside, the "don't live long" thing is a myth.
