I actually have my pump in the same exact placement as yours jarett, I also have fine sand. I have come to the conclusion that on constant mode, there really isnt a way to keep the sand from blowing around, because I also tried to put a layer of sand of bigger grain size over my fine sand and that didnt work either, and I have a 90. Its alotta flow man, think about it, you have 4 leds not lit, and the pump is capable of 3200 gph...so you're somewhere around mid 2k gph all in one direction? It sucks to say but the pump is just really powerful. Mine will stop blowing sand around in constant mode when I am a little less than 50 % power, which is still like 1600 gph. You can put another pump in on the same side as your mp40, but lower towards the sandbed to counteract the undertow which pushes the sand around but it may destroy the wave motion.

im contemplating just taking all the sand out and leaving the sand in the back for the wrasses, idk if thats going to look stupid or not, or i might just take the tank down and come back in the future when i can afford it. who knows

Thank You, but i cant my rock work isn't flat along the back it comes out forward towards the front so anywhere i put it other then where i have it its either blowing directly at a rock, or directly at one of my favorite corals that is encrusted and cant be moved.

i think i got it guys, i bumped the power down closer to 50% and i took some rock out on the left side to let the flow disperse easier over there, and the tank is finally clear and seriously night and day in the corals color and PE, they seem much better now without the sand being blown all over the tank and clouding everything up.

so pumps will run all day, then at 12:00 at night night mode will go on for 6 hours and then back to NTM mode all day. i think i am pretty happy with where i am at. the main thing for the night mode i think is so i don't have to hear it rev up and down while i sleep. i don't think the corals will mind 6 hours of calmness.
