Quick question guys ...is it safe running a generator in a porch of a town home.?

Porch is open but not open in all 4sides.

Its attached to home...so open on 2 sides.

Also can a generator be run under rain outdoors without a cover ...anyone did that ?

thx !

On most construction site I've worked at the had generators running they did fine out side. I mean if you think it's not safe then follow your instinct.

I've run my generator with rain in the past.

Did not ask about others. But they make good stuff. I was wondering that you cannot run them indoors because you don't want to inhale the exhaust. That said, what is the point if they are not weather proof because that is when you really need these things ...

Most of these portable generators were not designed to work in rain. They were meant for power tools, camping and things of that nature. They will run in the rain though but the life span will be much shorter as water gets into places not meant to be wet. Like the grounds, intake and spark plug area.

To quote from Generac Warranty:
THIS WARRANTY SHALL NOT APPLY TO
Failures caused by any external cause or act of God, such as collision, theft, vandalism, riot or wars, nuclear holocaust, fire, freezing, lightning, earth-quake, windstorm,
hail, volcanic eruption, water or flood, tornado or hurricane.

While they say it may work, if it breaks cause of water then you are SOL for warranty work. I would call them back and ask them if they will cover warranty work if something happens cause of rain. I would record the entire conversation :)

I for one will not take the chance and leave it covered..

funny im a ironworker and all our generators are out in every type of weather condition there is and some of them have extremely high hours on them. you think we want to lug those things around

Yea I'm a dockbuilder and all generators get put away at night, and they get used in the rain. But the weather does shorten the life span of these and a few over the years have just crapped out in the rain. Besides I don't know any iron workers who work in the rain.
