hi i just wanna start of by saying i have 4 tangs and all of them have been in thank for over 6 months getting along fine..

Just found my BLONDE NASO TANG a beat up a bit on his side now and i just saw two of my tangs picking on him, i do not know if this is natural for them to pick on a sick fish or if the reason his on his side is because they were beating him up. He was fine yesterday and eating and ok this morning.
I just took him out and put him on a 5 gal tank with some airrador I took water of my main tank for the hospital tank because i did not want to shock him

I am planing of taking out 2 gallon of water out and adding brand new water slowly to the hospital tank.
ANY SUGGESTIONS?

What kinds of tangs??? What size tank??? When were they added?

Well you need to set up a proper QT with a heater and filter. You may need to leave that fish in QT until it heals.

You did the right thing by taking it out, but be sure to care for it properly in QT

all the tangs been together for 6 months. 155 tank blue hippo tang, yellow tang, sailfin tang and the Blonde naso tang.. they are all about 6 inches and the blonde naso is 1 inch smaller .. almost same size. they were all getting along and just saw them picking on him after he was already on his side.
never done a QT tank dont know what to even add?

isn't 5g QT a bit too small for 5 inch naso, i would get like a 20 gallon ish tank at least, the smaller the qt is, the water parameter can change quickly and that's not a good thing. Can you put it in the sump in the mean time instead, the water is more stable in the sump than your 5g qt. Good luck, i hope it makes it.

How big is your sump, the section that you can place fish in? If it's not too small, i would put it in the sump section. Since small tank water paramater will fluctuate more. Plus your quarantine tank is probably just setup, is not an establish tank, is it? Water quality and filtration should be take into consideration, although you mention water changes.

For that size tang, you would need at least a 30 breeder for the fish not to be stressed ,, blonde Naso is a very docile fish and if the other tangs are bigger , they will attack the less weaker tangs in the tank. You can take out the most aggressive tang , and move some rocks around , and reintroduce the fish ,

we have a 30 gal sump.
the part I can add him is 1 foot by 1 foot.. MY new concern is that I just did a water test and i have 25 ammonia because we added a couple of small fishes and a start about a week ago and the star died.. i say it was dead about 24 hours before we found it and took it out.. so that could have done the ammonia spike. that may have caused him to be this way? again.. he was perfectly fine 12 noon.
I am doing a 10% water change now because I have a new brand of salt so i don't know if to make a bigger water change and stress the other fishes out..
I plan to buy the same brand of salt and make a bigger water change tomorrow.. but for tonight should i do only 10% witch is 15 gals or do 25 gallons even though its a different type of brand of salt?

This is the reason why i though it would be better to leave him in the 5 gal so i can add new freshly made water with the salt that i normally use this way i can bring down the ammonia?

Thanks again for all the help!

How big of a starfish was it? Don't think a small starfish dead for 24 hours in a well established 155 gallon would cause that..what test kits are you using?
Also 15 gallon water change ain't going to do much in a 155 gallon
I change 30 gallons in my 150 reef every few weeks with no issues

my concern now is should i put him in the sump for tonight or leave him in the 5 gal QT. he's not really swimming he is doing bad... I know its hard to turn around a fish like that but I don't want to give up just yet. so .... what u guys suggest?
I can only do a 15-20 gal water change tonight due thats all the salt i have as I just did a water change a week ago. I can do more tomorrow just not tonight..
Thanks again..

way too small for a hospital. think about living in your house or apartment for 6 months and then all of the sudden you move into your closet.... think u would be stressed??? yellow tang is probably the aggressor you want out, but listen to others as well big dog has most tangs and knows their habits... pm him hes usually willing to help

Hi Fancy, I had similar experience, where my blonde was harassed by a 3" clown tang. Blonde got stressed out and stop eating its favorite treat, nori. So I had it moved to my refugium (150gal). Even all alone, it took her about about a week to come around and nibble on nori. Its been a month since this happened, and she is cruising along with achilles in the refugium.

As I would call this a near death experience, your blonde naso is not going to come around
within a week or two, so I suggest you find someone that can host your fish with care ASAP.

I will be getting a bigger tank today 30 gal ok? I would like to be better prepared for any future emergency.

1. Any suggestions on what kind of medication I should have in hand if I ever get a sick fish and I do not know what may have caused it? other than maybe getting beat up by the other fishes?

2. Do i need a filter for a hospital tank? if I am medicating the fish?

3. Do I use a small power head for a nano tank or Just an air pump.

Thanks!

Yellow tang have a white spine on sIde of tail.. That's what probably cut him up if you have one. Tangs are know for cutting sides of other fish.. Mine has killed 2 fish of mine.

Post pictuRe that might help others see what problem is.. I'm not familiar with diseases of fish yet but mr has many to help distinguish issues.

Good luck.
