I need advice on buying a new protein skimmer as my current kent marine nautilus TE can't keep up. My NO3 are 20ppm and I would like to lower them. My tank has 3 tangs ( med size ), 9 damsels, 1 6 line wrasse, 1 clown and one cardinal. I have a 125 mixed reef w/ a one inch sand bed 30 gal sump/fuge combo.

Any advice on the purchase of a new skimmer would be greatly appreciated as I dont keep up w/ the latest products. If the skimmer needs a pump help me out there too. Thanks :)

Aggressive skimming, I would leans towards a beckett skimmer such as a Barr Aquatic skimmer over a MRC beckett.

If power consumption is a factor, then I would look into a Deltec AP701. They are pricey but history proven that owners are very happy with it. Staying along the lines of needle wheel recirculating skimmers and a little bit less would be the Euro-Reef RC line.

Why don't you give a try to a RDSB (remote DSB in a bucket)? It's cheaper than change your skimmer (less than $ 20), simple and can help you to get rid of nitrates. :scratchch
It doesn't work for you, just drop it.

Take a look here http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=595109 and here http://forum.marinedepot.com/Topic24535-13-1.aspx

For the case of skimmer I have a Remora and works great.

i went with a ASM G3 skimmer its cheaper then many of the other higher price skimmers and does its job and does it well.. some of us here use em.... and enjoy there benefits for the price we paid for em... i went with the g3 which i believe u can use on a 120 gallon but i would go with the g4 and add the recirculation mod and gate valve and i think ur good to go... this is just my .02c...
