i got a powder blue tang the other day, eats mysis no problem but am having trouble getting him to eat the algae sheets. i even attached it to a rock i honestly think he just isn't interested in the green sheets. any other recommendations to get him to eat some algae? maybe the red kind?

sometimes its takes a little while for them to find it. My powder blue took a few days to find the algae on the clip but now that he knows its there, he devours it :eat:. He also eats flakes and mysis shrimp, hes a hungry boy ;). Keep putting the algae in there with the clip and take it out before it decomposes if the tang is not touching it..

It's just green algae sheets ill have to see on the package what's the exact name. But I tied it to a rock and he showed a lot more interest then on a clip so ill try that for a few days. He goes nuts for mysis so at least he eats something

Tangs are primarily herbivores. They need sea veggies in their diets. It helps to boost their immune system. My tangs get seaweed in their diets once a day.

Mysis is a great strater food and treat but it is mostly all fat. I like feeding pacifica plankton in place of mysis. It comes from the ocean. Fish get more nutrition from foods that come from the ocean than from fresh water foods.

Check the ingredients on store bought nori. Even though fish tend to eat anything you want to make sure that what they are eating is as close to what they are accustomed to eating in their natural environment. Buy unroasted unflavored nori if you must by from grocery stores or purchase from your LFS. LFS's usually have chemical free, unroasted nori made for marine fish.

Not to hijack, but how to you like the Powder Brown? (assuming it's Acanthurus japonicus) How's it's temperament and does it bug your corals or inverts at all?
