I have an external overflow so the noise (air/water mixing) was also coming thru the piping/tubing. I could never get my durso quiet with my setup. I was also plumbing my skimmer direct off the overflow and the burping and big bubbles didn't help. To add to it, its less work to do it with a siphon than create a durso.

Its best to get it from mcmaster.com. It will arrive the next day and shipping should be around $5.

I should effect the temp at all because its only placed on the bottom.

But don't forget to using the rubber connectors so you aren't transferring any vibrations to the sump.

Any pics of your pump setup?
Did you use rigid pvc to connect pump or spaflex?
Just looking to make it as silent as posible..
Here is my current pic of pump..

NYPD - Thanks. I don't use ozone and are you thinking the rubber will burst?? Its attached to pvc and the pvc is only separated by 1/4". It seems stronger than vinyl.

Whats the idea of the rubber coupling?
It helps with sound/vibrations better than anything else I've used.

If anyone is worried about using the rubber coupling then don't bother using it. I'm just showing a pic of how I did it.

Guys, if you worried about using them then I wouldn't. Its not worth the piece of mind.

But to address the questions about them. They are pvc pipe joining clamps. They are made to connect pvc pipes together and are made of flexible pvc. They are not pressure rated.

You can find them at www.mcmaster.com, item # 4511K71.

On as side note regarding ozone use. Since this is for the return pump, ozone should not be reaching this point. A properly put together ozone setup should not have ozone going into the tank or reaching the return pump (I know nypdfrogman is knowledgable on this).

Paul, I agree that Ozone shouldnt be at that point my concern would be about ambiant ozone in the air. since you arent using it it's not an issue :usa1:

I like the set up! definitly going to use your ideas when I finally do my 450 which I hope to get going soon! my tank is over grown!

I use Ozone so I'll proably use spa flex between the pump and bulk head rather than the coupler.

Thanks!

OK Paul My pump is in....
Gel pad is awesome...
Now i see why you need the rubber coupling... There is some vibration that transfers from the intake side... I may try some spaflex see if that helps...
Which skimmer you running?

Nice! Currently I'm running a barr sk5220 beckett skimmer but theres a lot of things going on with beckett skimmers right now that leads me to believe that you won't need as powerful pumps on them anymore. I'll be building a new skimmer in a few months but beckett injectors are being under-utilized currently. With the way it is looking, it will be possible to get becketts to be more effiecient then needlewheels by slightly modifying the injector itself (after all the injectors weren't designed for skimming). Right now one guy modified his beckett so that it uses less watts per scfm (air flow) than any needlewheel currently on the market. So we might not need the big sequence pumps soon anyway :).
