I came here just to see if there were any info on this shark that was found on the Ditmars bound N-Q line, whichever train don't care, don't matter. but Somebody on this community knows who it belongs to, or who's it is.

Whoever did this pathetic prank needs to face justice. If this wasn't your pet, than you are filth, and if it IS your shark, then you are lower than filth.

Makes all aqualife keepers look bad.

Edit:

Not everyone has a shark, again, and in NYC, only about a handful of people have one that big.

That looks like a sandshark to me, can almost guarantee it was caught locally. One or two things come to mind...

I't fell out of some fishermans bucket/bag or something or it was caught and left there as a prank. Although i wouldn't - many people eat these sharks. I guess anything is possible. [probably left there as a horrible prank]

Sandshark. They are edible, abundant, and legal to keep, however, it is a shame to kill it and let it go to waste. I guess this story got so much attention being shark week and all :)

Here is a real shark from NY. A 275lb thresher shark that I caught last week only 3 miles off rockaway beach. Yes it is legal to catch and very good eating. We also had one substantially larger 400+ lbs that we broke off the same day, as well as several others in the 200lb range released on other trips. We actually have an inshore fishery for sharks in the last few years. All within 10 miles from the beach there have been many confirmed catches of blue sharks, makos, thresher sharks, brown sharks, sand tiger, and hammer head sharks.

like mentioned probably just a prank for shark week. it was one shark, chinese fishing boats catch hundreds of sharks, lop their fins off and throw them back alive to drowned. how cruel and a waste of the rest of the fish, but nobodies complaining. i think they should chop the fisherman's arms off and throw them in to drown. what a bunch of cruel people, if you want to call them people.

Sand shark for sure, and this time of year they are common in the Coney Island and Jamaica bay fishing areas , most people take them for show to friends and dump them rather than catch and release , stupid prank at the very least , punishable by a quick rogue beating!!! ..... At least I think so.

Some error in your statement, shark finning fishing boats are mostly not Chinese in Asia. However, China is probably the major consumption country of shark fins nowadays after Taiwan ban shark finning in 2011. New York has just signed into law that "possess, sell, or distribute a shark fin in New York state" is illegal." However, the law does not apply to "both spiny and smooth dogfish, due to its important commercial value in England. According to the Governor's Office, the fish is exported to England and the fins are then sent to Asian countries, where they are used in a traditional dish called shark fin soup."

Major production come from Caribbean Sea and the waters North of Australia-neither area are Chinese fishing area.

The photo I saw on CNN showed what was clearly a smooth dogfish, also called "sandshark". These are very common in all NY waters during summer and fall. Undoubtedly someone caught it on a boat out of Sheepshead Bay, then decided to leave it in the subway car as a prank.

Gordon Ramsey tastes shark fin soup for the first time, and experiences first hand the methods of getting it. A lot of finning occurs in south america if I'm not mistaken.

Caviar would be much better comparison, some have to actually use surgical method to extract. They are served in many political banquets and fund raisers. US politicians, in particular, should really consider a ban on it as it kill two birds in one stone-1)it show that they care and 2)kill their enemy's economy as a large portion is coming from Iran directly or indirectly nowadays.
