Back-up Battery Advice

Just wondering what is the best Battery Backup on the market for our aquariums.

I just use a UPS for my return pump. Get the largest unit you can afford.

How big is your system, and have you tested how long the battery backup can last with just your return pump plugged in?

i use one of those car jump starters. the one i have has an AC outlet and 2 DC outlets. i only use 1 DC outlet to connect my mp10 to. this thing saved my tank during 6 days w/o power during sandy. i probably charged it twice during these 6 days.

Would it power a heater do you think? If I can power my return pump and two 200w heaters I think I should definitely get one of these.

you can use a car battery. a lot cheaper than ocotech. you buy the electrical plugs from radio shack.

You would need to put a power inverter on the battery and someone must be home to connect everything as well.

With my UPS the unit picks up if there is a loss of power automatically. I really only care about my return pump. The heater I am not too concerned about, I rarely lose power long enough to worry about it.

A heater will drain a battery really really fast. Generator is your best mechanism to keep tank warm...

i meant use the battery for mp40 or tunze, they run on 12v. your right you will have to hook it up manually.
