Me and Gab are thinking about Using salt for our waterchanges now instead of the PreMixed salt water jugs we buy. its getting very expensive and thousands have been spent on the carib-sea water jugs.

wanted to no if we Mixx lets say ESV salt cause its the best one around i think, How long are we able to keep it in the bucket. can we make a whole brute container and just let it sit intill the week after so we dont have to keep mixing salt?

or is it not safe to do that.? please any input will be highly appreciated, new to the salt mixing i no there is instructions and i will follow them, Just want your opinions please. if it is safe or not to do so.

Only problem is keeping the PH at a good level. Its easier just to make the salt the day before you do a change or even make it in the morning and do your change in the afternoon. Keep a pump in the bucket so it mixes correctly along with a heater

I mix my salt just after a water change. I have two water tanks one that auto fills with RO water and then I transfer the water into my salt water gilding tank.

My water sits mixing for upto two weeks before I use it

Theres really nothing that would make it unsafe as long nothing unwanted gets in. As far as PH and temp just make sure it matches closely before your WC. Aerating it should bring it to a similar ph of your tank.

Yes we always check our PH it stays at a steady 8-8.2 all the time. but we never did regular salt mixes we always used carib-sea water.

Rob, Duke refer to guys , who store the mix. for week or two (i think) .
I mix. the salt in same (20 gal. ) RO/DI , use a pump to mix.(Koralia 7 Magnum Pump) i make the water w/one bay before (to match the temp.), not sure , if, is good idea to store water (salt mix.) for week or weeks, some bacteria may start to build ?! whats the point ?

How about people with 55g + mixing drums...what about your nutri sea water...no reason not to store salt water...bacteria??? Some people pay for bacteria...others wait for months and months to get bacteria, nothing wrong with bacteria, nothing wrong with storing salt water.

Old school was let it mix a day and than add. Now even the company of salt will tell you mix and add right away. Like Duke started a lot has to do with salt your using. ESV should be used with in hours. Plus that salt is very polished when mixed.

The levels in the made salt is not an issue as long as your storage tank is clean. I do keep a pump in the tank constantly moving the water. As someone else posted when you use the water just make sure the temp matches your tank temp.

I have two large containers that I use each 220 gallon. One is fresh RO and the other salt for W/C. I have been using ESV for over 2 years and use up a 200ESV gallon Mix every 4-6 weeks. I do not see a ph shift(or anything significant) and have seen no ill effects what so ever. In addition, I never see the buildup of gunk/residual muck in my holding Vats like other salts(coral life, Red Sea). Here is what my tanks look like and I use a Dart to recirculate the tank.

I have system running and only change 5 gallons per week...plus have a pump that pumps into sump. i don't heat honestly but i do pump into my heater section in sump. Also I have a pump that mixes it for like 20 minutes before I put in sump. I just do 5 gallons a week and mix same time .water usually ready and just add salt and mix and in tank...i don't like doing major water change dont want to disturb system or any sudden change......i have a 93 cube with like a 40 gallon sump cube also. Any questions feel free to hit me up.

Now that I want to do my water change is more often I actually keep about 30 gallons of saltwater for about 1 to 2 weeks. That way every week I can do about 10 to 15 gallon water change. All I have to do is let it mix with a heater inside for an hour or so before I put it in the tank . When I do bother texting it's all okay
