Being new to the hobby and reading a ton, I see that I can send myself to the hospital or worse by touching some corals: zoas, palys etc.

In an effort not to take to take a trip to the emergency room, is there some gloves better than others? Are there gloves made specifically for handling corals?

Thanks

imo if your cutting them then you really should put on some gloves. you dont really have to but its the safe route to go. As far as gloves for placing corals im not too sure. They do have Coral Grabbers for placing coral that are on plugs or small enough to hold with them. If you stick your hands/arms in the tank. make sure you rinse them under your water before putting them in to get most of the oils and stuff like that on your arms off first.

The less you put your hands in tank better off you are . Not only for yourself. But for your tank too. You can buy plastic tools that can reach and move things in tank. They sell long glovers if you need to. As long no power any plastic glover will do. Zoas are dangerous if your going to cut them. Or even handle out of water while moving them. Best thing to do is wear rubber glovers.

I use the red and blue gloves, covers majority of my arm in tank, very difficult to do much with them IMO. Good for moving rock around, not for grabbing smaller things. Scuba gloves might be an option for better dexterity. Long grabber tool probably best option

i use regular surgical/Latex gloves powder free and put a rubber band around the wrist. I also make sure i wash my arms very well after they have been in the tank. As stated try to keep your hands out as much as possible :)

then riddle me this: how do all the people working in the LFS's seemingly constantly putting their hands in the water all day long never have a prob? I even asked a few of the vendors at the Spring swap and they simply do just fine it seems. can it be allergies for a certain few?
