@coralcruze. How much did you dose and how big is your tank? I know you have to turn off all uv, carbon and skimmer for I think it's 10 days correct?

I dosed the recommended amount on the bottle. I think it was something like 5ml/25 gallons. Yes I turned off my ozone and took the carbon out (I usually dont run any carbon anyway unless i'm trying to remove something) skimmer was off and I did this for much more than 10 days. more like a month and a half. Yup Ich is gone. not a single sps died... all inverts are happy too. :biggrinpa

I was actually very surprised that the ich is gone. I didn't think it would be. i thought if I can give the fish a fighting chance until I trap him and the rest of the gang and qt, everyone is happy. but didn't need to. all is good and others are red in the face.:shhh:

So you had your skimmer off for all that time? How did you deal with ammonia and nitrate? What made you do the treatment for so long since it says 10 days? You still were noticing spots after the first dosage?

Yes I had the skimmer off the whole time. but the white spots came off completely within about 7 days. I continued the treatment for the full 6 weeks. I did some SMALL water changes throughout the entire process. but the reason for doing t for the full 6 weeks is because of the parasites life cycle. I wanted to see if the parasite would be able to reatach during and after the treatment. It was not able to and died off from starvation. None of my fish show any signs of ich and no rubbing. in terms of nitrates and po4 other than small water changes my bio pellet reactor took care of the rest. water testing throughout the process confirmed this.

AND... NO I did NOT use filter socks or carbon or anything during the entire process either.

Its been three months since the end of the treatment. I would not hesitate doing the exact same thing if there is a next time. In fact I have purchased some more since I am so happy with the results.

one other observation that I think is important to note here... The ich parasite was somehow introduced into my tank probably when I purchased a fish or it came in with the water of some coral frag purchases. I was rushing it and didn't QT as i was leaving on buisness and didn't have the time. when I came back after four weeks all was fine but the day after we had a heat spike and my tank spiked to 83 degrees. The fish were visibly stressed however about a week later is when I noticed white spots on the newly purchased fish only. so the temp spike was definately the trigger for me. The parasite took its opportunity at the weakest fish at the right moment. The ich DID NOT attach right after its intro into the tank. Rather it attached after the temp spike event.

some people actually raise the temp in thier tank to combat Ich. I've never tried this but if temp stresses the parasite than it makes sense that the parasite was in servival mode and attached to a host.

Disclaimer: anecdotal observational info. so take it for what its worth.:grouphug:
