I am going to go SSB on my 180 that I am currently setting up. Is there anything I should be aware of to make it successful? I will use the seafloor special grade reef sand to cover the bottom of the tank maybe an 1" or 2" these sand grains are much larger than the oolitic sand. the main reason for selecting this sand is so that I wont have a sand storm due to flow.

For Flow I will have

1 reeflo snapper on 2 X 3/4" sea swirls (returns from sump)

1 tunze 6100, 1 tunze 6200

Do you guys think this will be enough flow? I will have about 200 LB of base rock and maybe 50 of LR.

Thanks.

"Needed flow" is partly dependant on what livestock will be in the tank. Many SPS corals prefer higher flow, while softies and many LPS require less so.

yes, what are you keeping in the tank?

as for the larger sized sand grains you will have to treat the sand bed as something else to clean in the tank. At that depth it is decoration, which is fine. I would stir it once a week and vacuum it occasionally.
