I was looking around this week at a few LFS's near me, Fishtopia being one of them and got to thinking, there are very few if not zero LFS's with frag tanks. So i figured I would post a thread so people could post any local stores that had frag tanks, I am primarily interested in stores in the westchester region but I know others would be interested in stores in other areas as well that's why I didn't post this in the westchester regional thread. I would really appreciate any westchester frag tanks if possible ;)

There's someone in Tarrytown/sleepy hollow that sells frags on e-bay all the time but won't allow for local pickup I am 20 mins away and I refuse to spend 50 bux on shipping a few towns over LOL

I started this cause I am tired of buying colonies (primarily wild caught)

I know you are interested in Westchester, but Reef fantasy here in Staten Island, have a bunch of frag tanks, anywhere from single mushrooms, to larger colonies. He also has a bunch of SPS frags, as well as about 15 to 20 clams at all times. Both Bill and Chris are very knowledgeable, and will try to steer you clear from purchasing something that you cannot handle. Also, this store is dedicated for SW only. He has something like 8 50 gall tanks only for corals, about 3 of them for frags. They are located near the corner of Victory Blvd, and Manor Rd.

he asked, we answered. What you consider pricey, others, including myself call it getting what you pay for. No LFS in the area that I have seen have the quality of AF. I'm more than happy to pay for it. All of those tanks in the middle will have SPS frags in them occasionally, depending on availibility. I've gotten frags form them for as little as $7.

Me too.

Chief, I wish I could have gotten in contact with you before I went out to Ralph's (camz28) out in Edison last nite. He has a few beautiful tanks with tons of frags. I left out of there with 6 different mushrooms, 2 zoo colonies, 2 heads of pink tipped frogspawn, a purple cap frag, 2 fluorescent green leather frags & a nice pocillapora frag all for $30 at his insist.

Same with Alti, went out to his place in Hackensack & came out with 8-9 fantastic frags for $40, all of which he's selling on his site for at least $20 each. These are just two of a bunch of great guys who appreciate fellow reefers, especially those just getting started like myself.

There are a bunch of members on here that put a frag or two up for sale but when you get to their place you end up leaving with a bunch of great stuff.

No no no, by far the best frags come out of MR's members tanks, I am a firm believer of this. I go out shopping alot with the wife and when we go out I like to stop by at least one LFS. This weekend we went to super walmart and fishtopia was up the block and my LFS I usually go to was coincidentally on the way home :) But when I stop in I like to buy and frags are cool. I have already placed an "order" with a couple of members here already

Bigbris I didn't even think about it til you said that and I kicked myself hard cause I wanted some frags and the doser but things like this happen and if I don't ask you can't read my mind (which is pretty blank lately :lol2:)

This is just for info thats all nothing specific, we have store threads this is another hey FYI kinda thread :)

Just to put things in perspective here, the corals in members tanks look amazing and I'm sure are amazing, but they have been in the tanks for a sustained period under optimal conditions for the most part. The LFS corals are fresh out of shipping and have undergone a lot of stress right before you see them. Some corals come in and look awesome but most do not come in realizing their full potential so to speak. If the employees know their stuff they can help u pick a good coral or toss you a frag of a larger colony sometimes....sshhhhh. Besides all of the corals the members have had to come from some LFS/ website at one point...
also, as a P.S. AA has frags I tend to hide them in the hex tank in the back to save them for the people who can take care of them and I leave that 79 price up to keep the riff raff away lol. Price is negotiable depends on how many you are getting or if you know what you're doing. Mostly ORA stuff if you are looking for something specific I order from them frequently. Orders would be less the more you are getting too.

For LI, Suffolk Fish and Reef has a frag tank, though prices are more than what you'd pay from friends. LIRA meetings have an auction where you can get sweet stuff usually for $10 or less--this month Anthony Calfo's giving a workshop too so it will be a fun meeting.

There is a store Jawz2 on rt119 in Elmsford that has some decent stuff. I have been looking for the a good LFS myself. I don't usually buy large amounts of live goods that pay to have them shipped.
