A warning to all you fellow reefer out there! Last saturday , I was breaking down my 45 gallon tank and moving all the live rock out of the tank when I got *****ed by the live rock on my right hand. It started bleeding and I pulled out a small piece of the rock. I also had on two parts of gloves. It was only the thick ,arm length version and hospital latex gloves. The gloves should have been the thick coralife gloves, but I don't think it would have made a difference. I wonder if stainless steel gloves would be a solution for moving live rock.
Well, my finger blow up and had to go to the doctor. She put me on antibiotics, but it did not help at all. Also on the following day, my pinky on the left hand swelled up too.
Now after a visit to the ER, I am on four different antibiotics!!! I just hope it is not
MYCOBACTERIUM MARINUM!!!! If it is , then I will need four months of antibiotics.
Everyone out there , just beware when you handle live rock!!!
