Ushio DE 10K Bulbs

Does anyone use these. what do you think, are they better then XM bulbs

I havent used them, but ive heard they are top of the line if you put them with icecap ballasts. This is just an opinion, not fact.

Absolutely & Totally love them. I used hem in conjunction with a magnetic HQI ballast so I cant tell you what it looks like with an e-ballast.

With my new tank I decided to try the Ushio 14k de bulbs and am loving it even more. In comparisson with the Phoenix (which I quite liked) the Ushios are much brighter, not quite as blue. I used to mix the Ushio 10k with Phoenix 14k to get the brightness of a 10k with a slight blue touch but the Ushio 14k does it all. I still cant believe how bright this sucker is. I noticed slight bleaching on day one so I cut back the photoperiod a little to acclimate the corals to the new bulbs.

I used 10k BLV/Ushio on HQI bluewave VII and its is bright crisp white but with 4 T5 it is perfect but for some reason my corals dont like it that much so had to put back my PHX 14K and love the color no need for T5 and run it 9 hrs a day.....

Herman that is good to hear about the Ushio 14k's. I might give them a try when I replace my Phoenix which I also like , but don't love Randy

i will be running them with 4 t5 also.. And hows your growth. 10k usally get much better growth. hows it working for you

Dace if your run it with T5 yes it is perfect. I saw a major growth on all of my sps but some had growth but little PE out... So for now I will use the 14k and in 3 months ill put back the 10k. here is a FTS with the 10kBLV/Ushio with 4 T5..

Wow thats a nice looking pic. I wonder if that is whiter than the XMs. I'm using XMs right now and I really like the color. Its almost time to change the bulbs so I might be shopping around!

Pnoy, the tank looks awesome! Try lowering the EXP setting to -1.0 to help get rid of the white wash from the lighting.

Dave I use the BLV 10k and this has been the only bulb that I am truly happy with. I always bounce from bulb to bulb only to go back to the BLV/Ushio. IMO running 3-4 actinics T5's or VHO's is a must with this bulb. Let me give you an example of the importance of actinics. In person the lighting difference is not as extreme, but VERY noticable.
