Here are my favorites.
On Long Island - Aquarium Village
In Queens - Pets Aquatics
In Bronx - The Reef Shoppe
In Brooklyn - POP Corals
In Manhattan - Manhattan Aquariums
Also on Long Island - Caribbean Blue Aquatics

Except for the last 2, I visit each on a regular basis...more like several times a month.

Pets Aquatics is in Nassau not Queens. Great store either way.

County Critters is the best shop for rare and unique fish. They are also good if you breed anything. They sell live phyto, rotifers and pods.

The best shop I have been to (lately) in the tri-state area is absolutely Fish in New Jersey. They have several types of live food that they culture themselves... They also have pristine systems and know what they are doing. They are NOT cheap by any means...

The corals I bought at XXX corals were cheap but they died right away and spread parasites to other coral in my tank. No thanks. Manhattan reefs are much better and frankly I believe that you get what you pay for so price is not something that scares me off. I also checked out Reef Aquatics and found their stock to be impressive.

Since I started this thread I have visited several stores. So far I feel best about two stores.

The Reef Shoppe - 900 Morris Park Ave in the Bronx. Small, but they have a VERY BIG selection of fish and corals. The guys there are really good guys as well and they are very fair with their prices.

Archer Fish Aquariums - 514 79th Street, Brooklyn, NY. Even smaller than the Reef Shoppe, but his tanks and corals were very health and he had a decent variety. He was also fair with his prices and carried soft corals, something most stores avoid these days. Very nice guy and he is in the process of expanding. I hope he is very successful! I am VERY happy because he had a Yellow Tonga Leather, I have been looking for one for over a year. This one had THREE toadstools growing on the rock and he gave it to me for a very good price.

The others I have been to are POP Corals and Absolutely Fish in New Jersey. While POP had a very big selection of frags, the frags were "fresh cut", I usually prefer to buy frags several days after they have been cut. A decent deal though, especially considering the price. He also said he was not aware of his Yelp coupon, but he honored it.

I also passed by the new location for Fauna and sadly they no longer do salt water fish.

thank you Alfredo, nice seeing you again (Ive met you before in a couple of other stores), nice talking to you, and thank you for the kind words.

I can't believe FAUNA got rid of their fish room downstairs. You would assume a Manhattan store with fish/salt water would do fairly well. Who knows what the real reason is but it's still quite a shock to me.

I always got the feeling that the owner ran it like a hobby... They were really disorganized. Even now, the place seems unfocused.

They also had a different philosophy. They had a serious flatworm problem but refused to run copper in their fish only system or address it in their coral systems with anything but "natural" methods.
