I am still undecided what is the best bet for a sump for my 120gallon tank. I have a gift certificate to liveaquaria and was looking at sumps on there site. The Megaflow sump looks nice, they also have the Cyclone, CPR Aquatics, and Bio-Rocker. ANy ideas as to what is the best bet for me Thanks. I know plenty of people have suggested getting a 40gal tank for a sump that helps in case of a power outage to be on the safe side. Any suggestions?

as far as sumps, I think most people just get tanks and put some baffles in it. I think buying those elaborate, and IMO , overpriced sumps arent really worth it when you can just buy a tank, used or not, put some baffles up and its basically the same thing. or just try to find one of those nice lookin ones in the FS/FT sections of here or RC

You also need to decide how you want your sump to function. Internal or external pump, how big is the skimmer, are you incorporating a refugium in your sump? Where are you putting the sump and will it fit?

I will be using internal pumps, I have a reef devil compact skimmer about 7" the base, No refugium, the sump will be in the cabinet under the tank 48X24X30

It is very easy to place some baffles into a standard tank, if you can get one to meet your size requirments. In my 65 I built a sump, because the tank is only three foot long. For 120, you have many options. If you go with a glass tank make sure that the baffles are made of glass, as you can not silicone acrylic into a glass tank and expect it to hold for an extended period of time.

Glass is very easily "cut", and it only requires a $5 tool. Do an internet search and you will find detailed instructions, but as I said it is very easy and once you know the basic concept it is no problem.
