Ok... while looking over the price of large acrylic tubes and talking to Chris about the giant skimmer he's building, I began wondering... why are skimmers round?

Aqua C puts out some quality skimmers with a square mixing box and many HOB skimmers are square shaped. Is there a reason aside from aesthetics that most skimmers are round? If they offer better performance, how much could it be that it wouldn't be more cost effective to build with square acrylic sheets and go slightly bigger?

Thoughts?

just kidding, most are round I think because you can buy

only thing i can come up with as aplumber ,,having water going into a round tube in sted square box ,is the water is spread evenly with a round skimmer then a square one_ where i would say you are lossing bubble when it hits the corners of a square skimmer JMO ,,i could be worng
