Lets see,

A Coral Banded Shrimp, he ate my yellow neon goby.

I have the gorgonians so I guess I will see about them in the long run.

Velvet or Domino Damsels.

Most wrasses. You usually see them as adolescents but when adult size, they just move everything around. The one exception for me IS my 6 line wrasse! He behaves himself - perhaps because he isn't the baddest fish in the tank.

two things:

1) porcupine puffer - not really intended for a reef tank, but i just thought he was so cute when he was just a couple of inches long! now he's big... and makes a mess.

2) spotted toby puffer - put in the tank by a friend... ate everything as fast as it could. snails, crabs, coral, featherdusters, anything that moved.

i dont understand why everyone seems to have problems with coral banded shrimp, peppermint shrimp, and blue-legged crabs. i have them all in both of my tanks, and theyve never bothered a thing...

I did not have a problem with mine for a long time, then one day I did, and it sucked. Crabs/shrimp are opportunistic carnivores, and if they don't get enough food from the reefer, they just might develop a taste for other stuff. So, they are always a risk in a reef tank.

Other stuff I wont ever put in my tank:

Tap water
Cleaner wrasse, mine got mean
Bi color blenny - like to eat sps polyps

I think everything else has been covered.

Florida live rock that hasn't been exhaustively examined for the presence of mantis shrimp and crabs.

Tapwater.

Aragonite deep sand bed. (I'm much more pleased with the results from my current silica DSB.)

Any product that makes incredible claims and then only causes algae blooms and nothing else... you know who you are!

Rio powerheads (just to be on the safe side)

I understand the hatred of hermits. They seem too opporunistic and will kill anything they can.

But mushrooms? Why do people dislike them so much? Is it because they spread and sting?

I've never read anywhere that bi-color blennies "eat" SPS polyps.</strong><hr></blockquote>

Me neither, but the one I had went after them like they was the yummyest thing since bacon.

An arrow crab- Couldn't figure out why he kept picking at the LR and I always wondered why I had not seen a bristle worm in my tank.

One thing I can't seem to put in my tank are nudibranches (I got a cool looking multicolor one) - my brittle stars think they're hors d'oeurves. They last about 10 seconds.

Anthellia
Certain xenias (elenagata)sp?
damsels
feather and grape caulurpra
nerites which love to climb out

all well nothing original. Some one should start a tread to counter this one, like your fav addition to your reef tank.

Never again any macro other than Sargassum in the tank - refugium only.
Never again any pompom Xenia even CLOSE to the live rock.
Never another urchin (bulldozer)
Never again any "supplements" - bah!

BTW, do mushrooms actually STING? I thought they just slimed everything to death.

Graham,
Mushrooms dohave nematocysts and can wage some pretty potent coral warfare with some of their neighbors. Not as powerful toxins as some of the Palythoa but armed, nevertheless.

Being relatively new to this, and reading this thread, I have come to a conclusion.

The only thing you can put in a reef tank is
Live Rock
Live Sand
Coral (and some that you shouldn't like Xenia)
and Salt Water - and I am not sure about the salt water........

Seriously, it sounds like if you are going to have most fish, you should have a FOWLR tank and a seperate reef tank. Am I right???
