Mine were a great help with an algae turf problem. But when they get large, they become a major pain, knocking things over and mine consumed tons of nori sheets, when food became scarce.

Also be very careful when handling them. I have done so safely for a year, until a few days ago. If interesed, you can read my urchin sting threads on RC,[ doc Rons forum ], or on www.thereeftank.com

I love my blue tuxedo urchin, very cool little guy. He is always sporting the latest in aquarium fashion and accessories. Here are a couple of up close shots of my guy cruisin the glass.

I have had a pencil urchin for 11 years. I finally moved him to the fish tank recently due to his moving the rock around (very annoying). In all that time, I never noticed any coral ever being bothered by him.

So far, the clown trigger hasn't bothered him either.

i have a black spiny urchin that i've had to move into my fo tank. this guy unwittingly walked into my ritteri anmeone and impaled him in several areas. i kept an eye on the holes in the anemones side, and within days, i came home and found his insides on his outisde, streaming out from the holes in his body. i sadly flushed him.

now my urchin lives in a fo tank and seems to be very happy, altho the lion in there has snagged himself on the spines a few times as well.
