I'm finally getting around to painting the back wall of my tank. I was going to paint it black but I dont want the tank to look to dark. What does everyone else use as a background color.

i use a black background also.. i like the contrast of the black with the rock... just curious, is there any reason for painting and not just sticking the black aquarium background on? i just bought the black and taped it so i can take it off if i want

I always paint em black. With all the high intensity lighting looking too dark is rarely a problem on a reef...

Black- but I had a piece of black acrylic cut and I stuck it on with silicon. This way I can remove it easily if need be.

Terrence,

Here is something for you to consider. I use mirrors on the back of my tanks. I get a mirror cut to fit the back of the tank and silicone it on with clear silicone. For the most part it looks black but it gives the tank more depth.

If I knew how to attach a pic, I would.

I use black and it doesn't affect the lighting intensity. IMO, black makes it look nicer since it gives a nice reflection which adds depth.

I like black too. Some people like blue, but I think this kind of washes out the other colors in the tank. Just my opinion.

If you run one of the lower-K halides (5500k or 6500K) a blue background helps to disguise the tint of the bulb. Otherwise, I prefer a black background.

Do you guys that are using mirrors have a pic or an address where we could see what it looks like?

chris, to post a pic it has to be uploaded onto the web first. You can store pics at image hosting sites like Webshots. Then you just copy and paste the address where the pic is located between 2 image tags like this:

[IMAGE]http://www.yahoo.com[/IMAGE]

Except use IMG instead of the word IMAGE for each tag.

Here is my Tank, doesn't show the background, which is the Black "tape on" plastic. This background matches the AGA overflows nicely. Pardon me, but my real intent is to, hopefully, successfully, post a pic.
