I live in Victoria BC, the problem with a cold water tank is that if I wanted to keep local stuff (which I have thought about a great deal) I would have to find a chiller that would keep the tem at 53 degF in the winter and 55 in the summer.. yes there are some beautiful feathers and stuff (feathers with dence purple and red plums) but I think the chiller requirments alone would be more expensive that any MH lighting system.

Also you stated
"no need for ro/di
water doesn't require intense scrutiny(sp?)"
bad water is still bad water.. and there are algae's that will grow in cold water also that you want to keep down.. and even though it is a differnt water.. i imagin the quality is just as important to the life that inhabatats it the requirments willl just be different.
