regular water changes. not to control nitrates, just to keep everything in balance and dilute any harmful pollutants that may have found their way into the tank.

I would have to say reefs.org, patience. Also, without mail order over the internet to get equipment and books I feel that I would have not been quite as successful.

Sitting down and just watching the tank every day. You get to know the tank and it's inhabitants very well that way and can spot something wrong before it gets to be a problem.

I think hat my low blood pressure has made me successful. If it was high i think i would be dead now. Mainly when slime algae likes to make a apperiance.

Actually reading has givin me the biggest edge and patience(not adding things to fast).

If I had to pick one Item that I believe has made the most differnce in my system, It would have to be my Octopus 3K controller. It has taken the guess work out of when to dose Kalk, it is pretty good at holding the temperature in a +-.2 degree band, and gives me a heads up when something is askew (Orp meter). I think this one piece of equipment has made a big difference in making my 9-5 daily schedule and my reef tank compatible.

Knowledge is the key. This board, books and fellow hobbists are the sources of that knowledge.

By using that knowledge, suppliments, MHs, test equipment, etc can be used to their most beneficial extent.

My $.02.

Knowledge, without a doubt. I could have all the money in the world to throw at this tank and still manage to kill all the inhabitants through ignorance. Heck, just listen to the LFS.

Realizing that all things in our tanks have life and are living.
Their life is in our hands and we as reefers should do everything possible to help them thrive.
If we can't do this, then we should not be reefers.

Have a wonserful and safe New Year!!!!!!

JohnD,

Good on ya for bringing this back up.

This board is just as valuable as any book that I have in my library!
There have been lots of new people adding their voices here, and I would like to hear their input.

Happy New Year Everyone!!!
Stay safe.

I agree. Patience, patience, and more patience. Once the systen is up and running, just keep everything in balance. My tank/corals let me know when things go askew. Other than that, patience
icon_wink.gif
Other than that, just place the coral(s) in the tank, and if they are happy leave them alone, if not move them to a better place. My tank has been up and running for two years now, and I have only had to relocate two corals in that time to a better location in my 225. I have had some exceptional results from doing so. I do not agree with relocatining everything in the tank just because I got a new coral, or I do not like like how this or that is fighting with each other. Darwin's theory is alive and working in my set-up. HTH

I hate that saying. It implies you can't do better or don't want to try to do better.

I prefer the saying "It's better to have tried and failed than to have never tried".

Hi All,

I couldn’t decide between patience and knowledge, but of course patience is a product of knowledge.
