Not only will the content vary from lot to lot, but the salt starts absorbing moisture the minute you open the container. The first and last cups out of the container are not going to give you the same results.

Ernie,

I'm glad everything was "observed" to be okay.

Ah, but it is number chasing! Yes, I agree salinity is extremely important, but I believe that stability is far more important than any specific number.

If Reefer A has a reef set up running well (everything healthy, etc) and his SG is 1.023., I see no reason for him to get in a panic because he reads here that NSW is 1.0265. Even though everything is going well, people will still chase the perfect number, and in some cases will cause more damage by trying to reach that number (in this case, perhaps too rapid SG change).

Again, I must emphasize that SG stability must be within a certain range - say 1.021 - 1.028ish. Stability at 1.016 is not what I'm talking about. (even though some fish-only folks swear by numbers like that).

Was that hemoglobin count temperature compensated?

I sure hope so! Actually I was rushed back in for emergency surgery again on Tuesday and this time they kept me overnight "for observation" only they really didn't look at anything.
