Just to present a different viewpoint of Fish Oasis, a number of months ago, I puchased a rather expensive SPS colony from the shop. The colony RTN'd on me within about 3 days. The manager there had heard about the dead colony from another reefer, and the next time I went in the store he approached me about giving him the opportunity to make it right with me. I recieved two smaller but very nice colonies from him as his was of making it up to me. I wish to stress that I did not go in as an irate customer, in fact I never mentioned it to him, he approached me about making it right.
The owner and managers of this store are from my experience very conscientous. I have seen the flatworms in their tanks you mention...I also know that they have tried virtually every known/rumored natural eradication method they can think of. They are avid supporters of the DFWMAS, and donate regularly to the club raffles.
As for flatworms, I'd challenge you to show me an LFS with reef type setups(and I don't mean Petco etc) in the DFW area with out the worms to some degree. I've had the "infection", as you refer to it, in my tank for almost 2 years, populations rise and fall, but have never bothered anything. I don't know an experienced reefer with an established tank in the area that doesn't have them either. Would I rather not have them...sure I guess so. I've personally noticed that my populations seem to increase when I'm in a heavy feeding mode, and decrease when I back off on the food. Either way, they've never been a problem, and many just see them as adding to the diversity in their tank.
I'm not coming down on you, and I think all would be appreciative of your efforts to share info with other local reefers. But to categorize Fish Oasis as unscrupulous in their business, as you seem to in your above statement, is rather unwarranted.
I have bought and will continue to buy from these guys, flatworms or not. BTW, if you do go back, ask for Justin to help you. He's among the most honest and sincere LFS employees I've come across.
You ought to look into the DFWMAS though. With MACNA around the corner, this should be an exciting year for the club.
