Although I have not SCUBA dived, I live 4 blocks from a reef my wife and I swim to on a weekly basis. We are about 1 mile south from where the sharks are, and we know a barracuda named "Smoky" We will consider him our friend until he makes too fast a move.
I see the most beautiful parrotfish and rays on my morning swims.

I was YMCA cert. 10 yrs ago (back in the U.S. divetables pre-padi days). Did all my diving then, as didn't have to spend money on anything else. Been to grand cayman, jamaica, fl. keys. Was by far the best experiences of my life (other than the birth of my son). Would like to get recert. and dive again some day.

I dive! I got in to reef tanks as a result of diving!

Reef tanks are nice.. but sucking air while floating weightless thru the coral heads is a religous experience! I log about 80-100 dives/year "I don't bother keeping track anymore." I don't really care about deep diving or wreck recovery. When I first started out all I could think about was pushing the envelope and making man like grunt sounds when filling out my deep dive log..

Now I prefer to just piddle around looking for the small stuff and hang out where the sun is still bright, the upper reef zone. As a added bonus it takes a very long time to suck a 80cf tank dry at those depths.. 2+ hours

I am headed to Belize Cay Caulker Jan 29 thru Feb 12 if any of you are going to be in my neck of the woods I will buy the first round of rum and cokes!

Advanced open water with PADI last year. Spent a week last year and again this year on a Liveaboard in the Red Sea, out of Sharm el Sheik in Egypt. Fabulous reefs and fish life. Cant wait to go again.

I've been certified for 17 years, but unfortunately, I average about 1 dive every 3 years. I got certified in Wisconsin when I was 12, and did my cert dive in Devil's Lake, which is a clear spring fed lake with almost nothing to see at the bottom besides a few bass and a couple of big soft shelled turtles. It had been so long since I had dove that I got retrained in college during my freshman year by doing the training in a swimming pool during swimming class (it was fun to blow bubbles up at the people doing laps as myself and one other guy were both already certified and liked to mess with the swim class). Unfortunately, diving is EXPENSIVE and requires that you are somewhere where you can dive (I'm not much of a wreck diver, which is about all you can do in Illinois) so I only go when I'm on vacation and can find someone else to go with.
