My computor is a new Sony VIAO( P4-16 MGZ) with all of the bell and whistles, maybe 6 months old. I just unplugged it, and plugged it back in to simulate a power outage. Sure enough, it does not restart. I don't believe that any of the newer machines would turn back on automatically. My last maching did not restart after a power outhage (P3, 400MGZ).

Back in the old day, computors had two position switches, and would return to whatever state they were previously in, in the event of a power outage. Now they have momentary contact switches, and don't turn back on. The benefit to this would be like during a bad lightning storm, when the power is flickering, the computor would stay off, as opposed to turning on and off with no regard as to boot status. That was a mouthful!

Any way to overcome this obstacle....short of buy a UPS with capacity to last long enough to negate the threat?

Thanks for all of your replies. This has been a most informative thread! :)

Bill,
I plan on using emoonlight when my x10 kit comes in. I found the installation of the four components needed confusing. I installed the Java 2, but the rest, well... I'm lost. Should I contact you direct or can you PM me some easy idiot-proof instructions?

Thanks, Marco

Marco, The JAVA stuff is confusing. Here's a simple list of what has to be done.
I assume you meant eLightMaster.

1. Install JAVA....you've done that.

2. Download eLightMaster from my page. Unzip it from the desktop and it will create an elightmaster directory.

3. Download the Comm API from the sun page. We need to extract a couple of files from that archive.

4. Assuming it's the Windows Comm API, open the archive up with WinZIP. We are looking for 3 files.
- The first one, win32com.dll, should be copied to the \windows\system32 directory. Remember that Windows doesnt show *.dll files when you try the view the directory by clicking on it. Go to the DOS prompt to see the *.dll files if you want to make sure you copied it there.
- The next file is javax.comm.properties. Copy this file to the lib directory of JAVA. It will be something like \Program FiIles\Javasoft\....\lib
- The last file is comm.jar. Copy that to the eLightMaster directory.

5. Download the X10Command.zip file from my page. Unzip the X10Command.class file to the eLightMaster directory.

That should do it.

There is no executable, it's JAVA :) There's a run.bat file which if you look into it has 2 command line options. The default one probably wont work with the new version of JAVA so you need to "rem" that out and "un rem" the second one.

email me and I'll walk you through it, it's quite simple

Is this question worth answering?

I picked up the firecracker kit ($5 with voucher) with 2 RCA lamp modules($7 each) and 2 RCA Appliance modules ($8 each) and 2 Credit Cards Remotes (Buy one for $20 get one for $1) and free shipping for $55 total cost.

Where did you get the RCA lamp modules for $7 each and the RCA applicance modules for $8 each. Unless I don't know how to find them on the X-10 page, it appears that they are about $13 each.

I'm going to order mine as soon as the voucher comes over!

The RCA modules are on the X10 site, but the voucher will not apply to them....but that wont really matter since it will be deducted from the 19.99 FIreCracker.

Here: http://www.x10.com/products/rca_modules_ba2.htm (Scroll down the page)

This is a awesome deal. You can't use the voucher with the RCA or $1 sale, but if you purchase the firecracker set, it applies the voucher to it, and you can buy the RCA modules at half price.

Here's a copy of the invoice:

Qty Name SKU Price Sub Total
------------------------------------------------------------------------
1 4 Piece FireCracker Home Control K... CK18A-NW4 $ 19.99 $ 19.99
1 Two Credit Card Controller $1 Deal KR22A-1D $ 20.99 $ 20.99
2 1 RCA Lamp Module HC10LM-1 $ 6.99 $ 13.98
2 1 RCA Appliance Module (3 pin) HC25AM-1 $ 7.99 $ 15.98
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Product Total $ 70.94
Estimated Voucher Total -$ 15.00
Shipping Total $ 0.00
Tax Total $ 0.00
Grand Total $ 55.94

Thanks Macrosreef, I just ordered my firecracker package and I went ahead and got all 3-wire appliance modules. I think they will work fine whether I plug in a 3 wire plug or a 2 wire plug. I hope I'm not wrong here?

Thanks for your quick reply!

I wanna make sure I get the bulb for moonlight simulation! Is it really labeled GE Party Bulb?

Thanks!
