Ok, I have called my LFS guy and he pretty much told me that he didnt want to exchange it. He said that AGA would charge him a 30% fee for the exchange. But he did say that He could possibly sell it at his store for me. He didnt want to have the responsibility of drilling the tank on his own. So after much degbate, he told me that he would take the tank back and sell it there. I would have to pay 125 more dollars in addition to the 240 that my GF spent initially. This would cover the cost. My question is, is this worth it, is this too much money? What should i do!!!

Alright, so what else will i need for the internal overflow? He was saying that the AGA doesnt come with the overflow kit like the oceanic does. The kit will run me another 55 dollars. whats that about?

hi,

Wolfman. have you taken your pump apart. i took mine apart and my impeller has a clutch. Mine was also in the sump with a 90 plumbed so i didn't have to worry about low water level.

The impeller housing is a pain to re-assemble. maybe i have an old model. it is about 9mos old....

Just a few comments:-

First one to L.A. Lawman - Re: Ocean Runner 3500 pump. I am not doubting any problems that you say that you have had but I run 4 on my tank of which two are in the sump, one 3500, one 6500 and two 3500's running my 5000 twin skimmer. I have never experienced these problems at all which you mentioned earlier.

Secondly, back to the original thread about overflow boxes, I ran one on my last tank 7ft with a 3ft sump for over a year without any floods at all. How can you get a flood even when the electricity goes off, it only stops the syphon not breaks it? So when lecy comes back on water starts going back into the tank the syphon starts going again.

Last of all, as for the new tank - your fantastic, brilliant partner has bought you, now it's sitting there in its empty state, why not do the proper job and have it drilled and build an overflow box (wier) on the inside which is obviously the most reliable way? One wier would be ample with a 40mm drain to sump. One ocean runner 3500 or equivilent would suffice.

I would do that, but i dont no anyone that could drill it for me nor do i want to mess with it. The glass on the bottom is tempered so it cannot be drilled.

Hi Gary,

I Guess I got a few bad pumps. I have run them in the past with no problems. I work at a LFS part time. We have had a load of returns for the same problem. I like the pump. It is quiet and very energy smart. I still use two of them. I just took them off of the wavemaker. (the wavemaker has a feed button that shuts down the main-pump and only runs the powerheads.) If i dont unplug it I dont have problems.

I will continue to use the pump.

BTW what is the flowrate on that Durso Standpipe!!!!

90 gal RR tanks arent that rare, i see no reason why he wouldnt take it back. im sure you do enough buisness there that he should take it back. id be pretty pissed at the lfs if they woulndnt understand that. also 240 is a bit steep for a non reef ready tank.

AGA is a manufacturer. I'm not sure of any LFS's that get them direct. They get them through a local distributor. If they have any kind of relationship with their distributor they'd be more than happy to exchange if it meant selling a more expensive model. Unless you just want your money back and are planning on going somewhere else, in which case I'd be pissed too if I were him especially if it were a special order. But if it's a simple exchange it shouldn't be a problem.

How can you get a flood even when the electricity goes off, it only stops the syphon not breaks it? So when lecy comes back on water starts going back into the tank the syphon starts going again.

I had one for over a year with no problems, and then I moved the tank a couple of feet and it would break syphon weekly and put water on the carpet. Not only that, imagine how difficult it was for me to try to explain to my wife on the phone how to restart the syphon! She was pissed for a week! Best I can figure when I moved the tank algae in a certain spot in the tank near the overflow box got more light and grew enough to partially block flow.

ReefNewbie- FYI, Rover runs a LFS, so he has the inside scoop on things like this.

I would tell the LFS that if he wants to sell you anything else, he will replace the tank with what you want. Remember, they make most their money on all the things that go in your tank. markup on a tank at a retailer is not where they make their money.

I am sure he knows. The only problem is that i really cant argue with the guy because he always gives me discounts on things and wholesale prices. So i would feel like a total ass to argue with the guy. He has a book that lists the prices and such, and he is only making a few dollars on the sale of the 90 AGA tank. He showed me the price catalouge and he sold my girl friend the tank at basically wholesale cost. He always gives us discounts on things there. so i dont no. Maybe ill tell him what you guys said about the exchange. I just dont want to piss him off. thanks

All i do know is that another LFS in my area quoted me $450 for the 90 Reef ready tank. and if you add the 240 my GF spent originally and then add the 125 more my LFS said to add for the difference, thats still way less. right?
