ok this will solve all of your problems.

get a 180 gallon rr tank, and use the 90 gallon tank as a refugium in the sump. the stand will have to be alittle tall though. boy why didnt anyboudy else think of this. it is the logical decision. and thus the only decision .

or if you want to do it the boring way . id go for the rr that the lfs is offering. if he usually hooks you up with deals on other stuff.

by the way 450 is a bit rediculous for a 90RR. i got my 75RR for about 210. i think the 90RR was about 240.

Look, I paid $600 for my 180RR. Sounds high to me. Call around. Get more quotes so that when you go in to talk to him you are prepared.

Well i brought the tank back today to the store. This is the plan for now. Im gonna have him try and sell it between now and when i get back from winter break. If its sold, then im gonna order the RR tank from him. If i get back and its not sold, then im gonna have him drill my current tank.

My question for you guys is if i get it drilled, is the 90 AGA tempered glass on the bottom? If it is then ill have to have him drill it on the back, where is a good spot on the back(as far to the bottom as possible?) Also if he drills it on the back then i cant use the standpipe, right? what about internal overflow boxes, which one should i buy, they have so many different ones?

What size holes should i have him drill? I plan on hooking the OR 2500 as the return. thanks, I appreciate your opinions!

I looked in my AGA product brochure and it's not clear if the bottom is tempered or not. I would call them (414-421-9670) or email them at [email protected] to be sure.

-Yes you can still use it with a modification, my 180 is drilled in the back. When the time gets closer I will tell you what I did if you like.

Oh mannnnnnnnnnnnn, i know you already brought it back, i dunno what you told your g/f but if you didnt already say anythign tell her its in to get drilled or somethign to get done to it, DO NOT, i repeat DO NOT tell her you traded her gift in. Youll be livin gin teh fish tank down in the garage LOL. If i were you the best thing to do is just get yrou tank drilled its not all that expensive and then you can decide how big you want your bulkheads for the amount of flow you want. not restricted to AGA's specs plus you keep the b/f happy. And any g/f that buys you a 90 Gallon tank is one worth trying to keep happy

Also, what are your ideas on not even putting an internal overflow in the setup and just having the holes with the bulkheads?

Does this guy not sell many tanks?

Did the 30% thing he showed you come from AGA, his supplier, or what? Was it on custom tanks or something?

Seems strange to me that he talked her out of the RR in the first place. But to have a customer say "ya know, I want a more expensive version of this tank" and give you a hard time...that is just strange. If you came back and said "ya know, I want a 200g" would he have given you the same trouble?

From my time selling tanks, it is just odd. We carried some AGA tanks, but mostly Oceanic. The money is definitely made on the contents, and not the tank, but a few extra cents on every dollar for the tank is still money. And you want the customer to be absolutely happy with what they have, so they keep coming back.

Hope he doesn't crack the tank in drilling it. Check on any warranty information before he drills it...wasn't there a thread on this a loonngg time ago? If he drills it, and it breaks, he might have it written somewhere that you are SOL.

Maybe it is just me.

yea, i would be SOL. thats why im hoping it doesnt break! the reason that i think he talked her out of the other tank, is because either way, hes charging me wholesale price, so either way he doesnt make any money.

Still, IMO, you offer the customer the best tank for what they want to do with it (RR all the way)...and if they decide that what you thought was the best tank isn't what they want, then you help them get what they want. Especially in this sort of situation where he wasn't dealing with the primary tank holder. Being agreeable makes the place a nice store to shop at....

Guess each store owner may be in a different situation.

Since it looks as though im going to be drilling this tank, I have a few questions. Im going to order an internal overflow from http://www.wetdryfilter.com
I wanted to know what you guys thought would be best. First, How many sided overflow should i get? Second, Should I drill the tank such that I can place the overflow in the middle back of the tank, or back left/right? Which would be a better solution? thanks

Man i really will kill myself if the tank cracks when it gets drilled. there goes a lot of money 8O !!!

hey man,

Good luck with the drilling!

I have used all sorts of overflows. I like Center overflows when I can get them. I usually go with a trapaziod shape. It allows you to view that tank from the sides without obstruction. You can control the profile of the box and not be limited to just a square. I used a trap that allowed for two drains and two returns. It was a little over 11" long and 5." deep. The tank was 24" deep. It worked great.

If the tank is gonna be placed with a wall to one side then put the overflow in the side that you can't view from.

You are one of the lucky ones who gets to choose which side he wants the overflow on.

You should also drill the holes for the flow you want. if you want a large drain. Do it now. Don't drill one too small and be unhappy with the amount of flow you are pushing..

anyway... good luck.....

thanks. Im having a little trouble locating the correct bulkheads. The only slip ones that i find have the whole kit with the strainer(importan?) and the elbow. I dont need the elbow since its gonna be drilled on the bottom. any links you guys could help me out with?

Yes that would be great. I need either (1) 1 in and (1) 3/4 in or (1) 1.5 in and (1) 3/4 in. either way i want slip not threaded. which would be better you think as far as size? should i get the smaller one with an OR2500 or the larger 1.5in with the OR 3500? what are the hole diameters for all these sizes? thanks alot LAwman!
